Boots and Shorts-Discrimination

Don't own a pair of cowboy boots--my feet and spine are really messed up and it would be agonizing. But I wear shorts from mid-spring to mid-fall. At almost 76 my legs are skinny but not that bad, with no varicose veins. I really don't give a damn what people think--a perk of being old.
I don't wear sandals and black socks, just New Balance sneakers. Don't tuck in my shirt, and don't wear the shorts halfway to my armpits--I ain't built that way.

I just remember what a friend of mine said years ago: he thought of wearing shorts as his revenge on society.

I personally don't wear short britches all that often...But when I do, I'm wearing my boots and hat!!!

Oh man I just got a mental picture that's sure to cause me a loss of sleep! LOL

Wells, ya can take the ol boy outta the country....But, ya can't take the counrty outta the boy, :D

.
My son sent me a photograph years ago when he was in collage.

As the story went, a gaggle of 'em was enjoyin a few barley pops and chute doggin a sum steers
and son thought it didn't look like much of a chore.

Picture show him doggin & throwin a steer in short pants and flip-flops.

.
So, I guess it ain't always the clothes that makes the man.....;)

I'm KIDDING!

I haven't owned a pair of shorts in at least 15 years. I just don't look good in them. If I were wearing Khaki or tan shorts, I wouldn't think it looked bad with work boots, just military. The socks should come close to the knees. A lot of it depends on your body type and your appearance. Not everybody looks good in everything.

Wow! You guys are totally missing the boat on this.
She obviously has an irrational fear of some 50 year old hottie making a play for her stud muffin.:D

Did I really say that?

I'd say the problem lies in either the choice of boots or shorts ...

It's how it is here where I live in Florida I see both guys and girls wearing shorts and cowboy boots. I did see a guy wear cut off shorts and combat boots and a cowboy hat. I guess some ladies think they are the only ones who need to dress like that and not their men.

I finally gave in to the heat a few years ago and wear shorts in hot weather, but cowboy boots?! You're a braver man than me :-0

Never used to wear shorts until a few years ago. I decided that if the Tommies in the British Eighth Army carrying Lee-Enfields could wear them and defeat Rommel--they were manly enough for the likes of me...

As to cowboy boots--my feet said to knock that stuff off some time back.

Ladies with nice legs look grrrreat in jean shorts and cowboy boots.
A guy in short and boots? The Village People come to mind.
Best be careful about the message you are sending.

Well my wife tried for years to get me to wear shorts. Never would. I finally realized how HOT the Wranglers were in 90 degree heat :( Now days the shorts can go on as early as March sometimes, and stay on until November. Boots are Hot as well so it is hiking shoes or sneakers. I don't own a pair of dress shoes and haven't in over forty years. I will wear western boots if called upon, but then I don't own a suit either. :) I never tuck a shirt in, not since I can remember, and could care less what anyone thinks. The day I retired I threw my watch away as well. :D

Uggghh...sorry, but I just can't go along with that at all! I don't own a pair of shorts and probably haven't for a good forty years....maybe more. It can be 110 outside and I'll still be wearing my Wranglers and boots. I do make one small concession, however....I wear a straw hat instead of felt.:D

On the other hand...if you can get away with it, more power to you. In the memorable words of Rudyard Kipling, "You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din!"

I don't really care for the shorts and boots look on females...especially not those boots that look like snow boots, worn with shorts and a halter top, and it's 90+ outside.

On men, no way!

I don't ever wear shorts in public...not with sandals or tennis shoes...not at all, period. I wear them around the house all the time, but if I'm going anywhere that I have to get out of the car, I put on pants. Why? Well, I have to wear compression hose, since I've had issues with blood clots in my lower legs; these hose are black, and they look like knee high stockings. Women's knee high stockings...not men's over the calf socks. No way am I going to be seen in public with those showing!

My wife thinks I am being silly...but round these parts, a man wearing shorts with knee high stockings could get beaten up! No matter what footwear he was wearing...but boots would make it even more likely.

Haven't owned a pair of shorts since I was maybe ten. My son can probably get away with that and might wear shorts at home while working on cars or feeding a horse, but he wears jeans or slacks in public. He does wear boots, either cowboy ones or, more often, combat boots that he's favored since his days in Iraq.

His wife has impressive legs, but she, too, usually favors jeans over shorts. My daughter turns men's heads whatever she wears, too, but women just dress differently, with cause. Trim young women look great in shorts, but I usually prefer them in sandals to boots.

Somewhere on the Net, there's a photo of three hotties wearing shorts and cowboy boots at a rattlesnake roundup. They're cute, but "country." Like Daisy Duke!

I'm fortunate enough to live pretty close to SMU and Dallas is sort of a fashion center, too. I see a lot of cute chicks in shorts, most in sandals. Some just throw on a tee shirt or beach coverup and shop in bikinis, and some Highland Park wives shop in tennis dresses. Very scenic.

As for restaurants, some have dress codes that I hope preclude people who shouldn't wear shorts making public eyesores of themselves. What's okay at a fast food place might not be at a more formal restaurant. The eyesore people do sometimes invade malls and grocery stores. I see them in Target, and I'm sure that Wal-Mart is as bad or worse. 200 pound women don't look good in anything, let alone shorts and halter tops. There is a place for the muu-muu, and this is it.

I wear normal shirts (some short-sleeved) in summer and slacks like khaki or olive Dockers. I wear casual shoes like Timberlands that are sort of fancier boat shoes with better arch support. I have boots, but only hunting boots with Vibram soles that I sometimes also wear on snowy days, for warmth and traction. The current ones are from L.L. Bean, but I think they're Herman Survivors marked for Bean's. Certainly very similar, and of really good quality. If I get any more boots, they'll be Danners. I very much liked a pair I had. I have an old pair of Russell's Birdshooters with Vibram soles. But I don't really think a moccasin-styled boot gives enough ankle support in rocky country. And the raised toe seams get scuffed in brush. Also, mine got wet and my ex-wife threw them in a car trunk without telling me. They got a lot of surface cracks, although oiled.

Cowboy boots are bad for your feet, so I don't own any. But I will look at girls in boots and Daisy Duke shorts. IF that girl looks good in that combination.

I'm still trim and my legs are good for a man. But even Tarzan would look kinda silly in boots and shorts. Do you think you look better than Tarzan? :D Now, Jane...:)

I wouldn't be caught dead wearing boots and shorts. But then the only place I wear shorts in public is the gym. I wouldn't wear a full brim hat and shorts either. A ball cap, yes, but not a hat.

And women wearing boots and shorts, or boots and short skirts look silly.

Boots should be worn with long pants. With the pants over the boot tops.
