Hello all you wonderful folks. I would like your thoughts and suggestions about gun cleaning. My family and I live upstairs in my parents home. There is about 800 square feet in the area we live in. I would like to find a bore cleaner or CLP that is not so harsh. My wife and daughter live upstairs and I do not think they should have to deal with hoppes or Outers. Is there something that is odorless or light oder that does nit reek of amonia like Hoppes r Outers? My wife does not mind Outers but she should not have to live with it either. I would be cleaning a 38/357 revolver and Wifeys Ruger LCP 380. Thanks for the help.

Try M-Pro 7. It is relatively odorless but be aware that it is ineffective on copper fouling. If you have that issue you will need to use one of the ammonia based cleaners like Shooters Choice, Sweets 7.62 and others. You may need to do that cleaning outside or in the garage and then double baggie any dirty patches and rags and put them in a covered trash can.

Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil
Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil has little/no odor and does a fair job. Used it plenty of times as a CLP. I think my milsurp rifles would rebel if I were to use some fancy-schmancy gun-particular CLP.

They don't call it DETERGENT motor oil for nothing. And even the priciest synthetic Mobil 1 is super cheap relative to gun-particular CLP products.

Lemon Oil
Yes, the stuff you can use on furniture. That is what my dad & I used when I was a kid. Smells GREAT! Not the best preservative, as it will evaporate faster than CLP in my experience. I thought I was over using lemon oil until my wife wanted a HD shotgun--right next to where she sleeps. Lemon oil won the "sniff test." I re-touch her shotgun bbl every month or so.

3in1 Oil
Not too strong an odor. Used it on something recently. Does OK.

Odorless Mineral Spirits
Another, more aggressive cleaner might be odorless mineral spirits.

+1 for M-Pro 7. And very true about the copper fouling. You'll need a stronger cleaner for that. Also look into Lucas Bore Solvent. It has a very sweet smell to it and its stronger than M-Pro 7, although its more expensive. All of these are available online.

CLP Breakfree "can" be used as a bore cleaner, but is SLOW working.

It was intended to be a "One product does it all" Cleaner, Lubricant, and Protector" so a soldier didn't have to carry a lubricant and a separate bore cleaner.
The Cleaner part works best in the firearm to keep carbon and powder fouling soft so the moving parts can brush the fouling out of the way and allow the weapon to continue to function longer.
It has no effect on copper fouling.

There are several low odor bore solvents around.

Bore Tech Eliminator says it has low odor.

BORE TECH ELIMINATOR | Brownells

My buddy now uses Bore Tech CU+2 copper remover and he says it has virtually no odor and is safe to leave in the barrel much longer then other copper removers.

BORE TECH CU+2 COPPER REMOVER | Brownells

Sharp Shoot R Wipe Out says it's odorless.

SHARP SHOOT R Wipe-Out Tactical Advantage | Brownells

Breakthrough is odorless.

BREAKTHROUGH CLEAN MILITARY GRADE SOLVENT | Brownells

Blue Wonder is low odor.

BLUE WONDER GUN CLEANER | Brownells

TCS is odor free.

Someone needs to develop an aftershave with the aroma of Hoppes #9. I love the stuff.

I am being goofy here but alright here goes. For about $5 from Wally’s World you could have a lifetime supply. Here is what you will need:

Great Value clear amonia 64oz
Great Value pure bananna extract 1oz
Spray bottle of your choice

Pour the bananna extract into the amonia and shake well. Pour whatever will fit into the spray bottle. Spritz away.

You’re welcome. LOL

CLP works okay as a lubricant and rust preventative. It will work for mild bore cleaning if nothing better is available, but there are a lot of better products for that chore.

I used to be a Break Free user but now I use nothing but M-Pro7. The gun cleaner is odor free and the CLP has a mild odor but nothing you could smell from more than 3 feet away.

What do you use to clean your hands when you are done? Good old grease cutting hand cleaner, or your wifes Dove off the sink!

Hickok45, the YouTube personality, swears by Ballistol. This is a CLP type product developed by German chemists for field use during WW2. He is so enamored with this stuff that he even uses it on wooden stocks. It has low odor so you might try it.

I think most will agree that the ORIGINAL Hoppes Bore Cleaner is top notch but the OP was for a non scented product - love it or hate it, Hoppes does NOT fit that bill!

Any all in one CLP will not clean as well, HOWEVER, if one keeps up with maintenance on a routine basis, their firearms should never need heavy duty cleaning.

RIG #2 Oil and Remoil should also fit he bill however the Breakfree CLP as I mentioned above will as well and has the least odor of all IMHO.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the new Hoppes Elite Gun Cleaner , mfg. # GC2 , right on the bottle it says " Scent Free" .
I'm sitting here with a bottle and I can smell nothing...no odor whatsoever ! And...the stuff works . My wife has a nose a blood hound would be proud of...it's the only product I can clean a gun with , sit on the night stand and not hear a bunch of " that stinks get it out of this room " . The down side is... it's not cheap , but it sure does buy peace in the bedroom .
Hoppes also has an Elite Gun Oil , mfg. # GOT4 , to go with the Elite Cleaner, it may have a slight odor , I just put a drop on my finger for the sniff test ,
I can barely detect a smell...and it smells good. Extremely Low Scent .
I buy these at Wally Mart , easy to find and they are not offensive smelling in the least...my wife would have complained to high heaven if they were . Debbie Smelled & Approved .
Remember this is Hoppes ELITE not the old stinky #9 stuff ...
Anything cleaned with #9 isn't allowed in the house for two days .

MPro-7 without a doubt. Let it sit for an hour if you have stubborn fouling and all deposits will wipe away after a brush and a few patches.

There are several CLPs with a much less offensive odor that Hoppe's.

Weapons Shield
EWL
Froglube
Breakfree
