Just got my first S&W .38 and was wondering if anyone could help me with the date on it. It's a Mod-60 and the serial number is R255xxx. I'm thinking maybe mid-late 70's but would like to know exact year if possible. Thank you for the help.

If it's a Model 60, you have more than a .38 there. The 60 is chambered for .357, but you can also accommodate .38s.

The model 60-9 was the first of the .357 Mag. That was the mid 1990's. Prior to the 60-9, all 60's were .38 spl. I may be wrong.

>>Earlier M-60's were only chambered for the .38 Special cartridge.<<

Plus, it was the first production stainless revolver to be made! :-)

A friend of mine has a Model 60 and is wondering what the date of manufacture would be and if it has any collector's value.

He's not computer savvy, and I'm not S&W savvy, so I'm helping him out. :)

Serial number is: R259722

Any help? Thanks in advance!

My grandpa gave me his ss model 60, the serial number is ANN19**. When would this one have been made? Thanks

I have a Model 60 serial number X67**, anyone know when she was born and BTW, can I shoot Federal Short Barrel +P's with her?
Thanks,
Sam

I re-checked the M-60 hopefully in the right place and the number on the bottom of the grip says "ANP98**". Anyone know when it was made and can I shoot +P's?
Thanks,
Sam

Love my Model 60-9

Sure love this gun for concealed carry. Had a Ruger Sp 101 but sold it when I found this bobbed beauty.:)

that "bobber" is pretty, too. i had to have an sp101 also, but it was just too heavy to carry day-in and day-out. it was quickly replaced with a smith!
