New also. Just took these out of a safe deposit box where they had been untouched for twenty years. Never gave them any thought till I came across this forum. Please advise DOB for my 27-2 6" nickel, serial N37705X and my 29-2 4" nickel, serial N31139X. Thank you everyone. Rick

Gentlemen, welcome to you both.

Harl: The 17 looks like 1959; the 28 1979-80; the 57 from somewhere in the 1982-84 range.

Dawg, your 27 looks like 1976; the 29 is roughly the same age, but maybe a little earlier -- say 1975.

Credit for these dates goes to the serial number table at the end of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (Supica/Nahas).

Hint: we like pictures here.

Thank you for the prompt reply Dave. I will take some pictures of both of them and post them. They are in their boxes with all the tools and papers. I am so relieved that after not even seeing them for twenty plus years they are still just the way I left them. I guess the bank is a pretty controlled environment but I never even took any precautionary measures like coating them with oil or wax. I guess I never intended for them to just be left there for so long. The blue steel 27-2 3 1/2" I carried as my duty weapon for my first 15 years is at S&W right now getting a new bead blast blue. It was no collector item anyway, just sentimental to me. I still use it to qualify once a year for H.R.218, the only way we can CC here in Illinois.
