Nope, this isn't about politics!

I picked up this 7-1/2# pork shoulder roast yesterday for under $7.50. I liberally applied my own rub, let it sit for awhile and seared the outside. It's currently in a covered roasting pan with some good beer, braising away!

Dinner will include homemade mashed potatoes, microwaved frozen peas and dripping gravy. All for under $10 and we'll have leftovers for days.

We've been seeing some good deals on pork butts/shoulders recently, too. Made some pulled pork in the instant pot a coupla weeks ago that turned out pretty well.

Looks like a great supper is in the works...what time is supper? Can I please come?
Sure you can, we'll have plenty!

Northern Ohio, eh? I'm dishing up at around 6 O'clock, so you'll need to hit the road right now. Send a PM when you get to northbound I-275 and I'll reply with directions. ;)

I thought "Boston Butt" was what you got sitting in their infamous traffic.
It wasn't designed for individual passenger vehicles.

Our niece has her masters degree, lives in Boston and works at MIT. We wanted to give her a nice 4 year old vehicle, but she wouldn't take it because there's nowhere to park and the costs are stupid high. She uses mass-transit and has only been robbed at gunpoint once.

Sorry I can't make it tonight...

Thanks! Very nice of you, but as much as I would like to I will not be able to come tonight as I have some business to attend to...I will however be thinking about you and your family enjoying that meal! Roger

We used to "slow and low" those,, BUT,, NOW,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

We Instapot!!

pretty much the same,, except,,
1) cut into "chunks" not many, a pound or two each chunk.

2) add rub, then brown on all surfaces,,

3) Instapot for less than an hour,, Sugar type COKE is the liquid,,
plus the drippings from the browning,,

Makes the best barbeque you have since leaving North Carolina!!

We do baby back ribs the same way,
finish in the oven under the broiler for a few minutes.

Disclaimer,, : I may have neglected a few things,, typing from memory,,
look it up on the internet for complete details.

Actually down here we call it "Choux rouge" :D
When I do my Boston Butt, I will do a snake in the Webber and then season it and smoke it with either pecan or post oak until the snake runs out (about 8 hours) If it still needs to get to 200 degrees, I'll wrap it and finish in the oven until it gets to 200. Then let it rest for about an hour in the ice chest.

On topic. I read sometime in the past few weeks that CA has placed into effect very restrictive regulations on sourcing pork products. Restrictive enough that some of the pork producing companies have opted to stop selling into CA. As a result, there is a lot of pork available and decent prices until the supply evens out.

Off topic. Boston traffic has gotten much, much worse since the new Mayor took place. She is all about mass transit and bikes. Streets that used to have two travel lanes and a parking lane now have one lane for cars, one restricted to buses, and a bike lane as well as the parking lane.

All of Back Bay, Downtown, much of Charlestown and the North End are grid locked most of the day. That's why post retirement I try to stay out of the city.

Cambridge is pretty much the same, only worse.
