Just curious if anyone shoots or practices with both eyes open? I've seen some topics in YouTube about it. Any thoughts?

Always. knowing your dominant eye is critical to do it quickly and repeatably.

always both eyes open. only time I close my non-dominant eye is for long range scoped rifle. depth perception is key in most everything we do as humans. learn it, be comfy with it... it could make the difference.

Yes, I shoot and practice with both eyes open. Very helpful keeping my dominant eye focused.

Yes, both open. Always. Two eyes open gives you depth perception which allows you to properly adjust your aim for distance when using fixed sight revolvers or pistols.

Two eyes are better than one.

PERIPHERAL

Packin4me: I was surprised no one mentioned the subject of peripheral vision, except for Bkreutz's specifically having his bacon saved (Thanks, Dad! Right?) by keeping both eyes open. Closing the non-dominant eye severely limits the P-vision on your off side. Definitely not a good thing when defending yourself. I get a kick out of instructing a novice to shoot w/both eyes open when they say something like, "Which gun do I aim over?".

I'll certainly admit, when testing loads I'll TARGET SHOOT with only my dominant eye, but otherwise make a habit of keeping them both open & learning how to ignore the Ghost Gun.

Good Luck, Hank M.

Yes, I shoot with both eyes open. It is the preferred way for many reasons. It is helpful, though not required, that your dominant eye be on the same side as your "strong hand."

Thanks all. I didn't realize so many do it. I have just started practicing that way and it's not too hard. Takes getting used to of course but seems to be working the more I do it. And I love the "Which gun do I aim over" comment. [emoji1]

My Dad tought me how to shoot. But of course to get a hunting licence
and later a pistol permit, formal training was required by the State. Two eyes open is a very basic part of any firearms training.

I thought everyone shot with 2 eyes open. I never heard of closing one eye.

Still working on this one. My biggest concern is the lack of P-vision when in a confrontation as mentioned above.

I shoot pretty much everything both eyes open. If the scope is adjusted properly you get a "big and small" image that takes a little getting used to, but is especially useful. For long range handgun target shooting with iron sights I do wear a blinder over the "off eye" lens. Usually a cardboard ear plug container. cheap, and easily replaced!

I just started this and still trying to learn.

Both eyes open...

I'm left handed, and I primarily shoot right handed, but with either depending on the situation. I have corrective Lasik surgery and monovision. My left is my distant eye and my right is more for close up vision. So, I shoot right handed using my left eye with both eyes open. the only difficulty is shooting a rifle right handed...that eye is not a distance or dominant eye. How's that?

I've been doing it for years before I had the Lasik, and didn't know it.

So I've trained my family to shoot with either hand, with both eyes open. Both eye open allows for better understanding of what's going on around instead of eliminating that benefit. Using either hand...well that goes without saying.
