Bought a new project.

Next week will be a busy one.
Differential gaskets arrived so now I can get all the gear oils changed over
to full synthetic, get my transfer case mounts replaced and my drive
shaft put back in.

I got the rear diff, transfer case and transmission switched over to full
synthetic gear oil.
Hopefully the front diff and transfer case mount bushings will get done today. Maybe even the new turn signal switch.

Another good day in the shop. :)

Drove into town and had breakfast with a good friend and on my way
back home I stopped and picked up new radiator hoses and thermostat.
NAPA has them all in stock.
I still have a roll of 5/8" heater hose left over from the old days.
While I was under the truck I noticed that the water pump has been
seeping through the weep hole so a new water pump is due.

I did get the front differential gear oil changed over to full synthetic too.

The transfer case mount bushings were shot.
I had my friend help me drop the transfer case.
That's who I bought the truck from.

So the drivetrain is done. Once again the truck has 4-WD. :D

The little things count too. ;)

I love old rigs with character! While my truck is a 2018 I want to find a '56 Chevy with Napco 4x4 running gear to go with teh 56 hardtop.

Old blankets or bedspreads work well as seat covers. Cheaper than duct tape.

And no adhesive to stick to the seat of your jeans.

My project is not nearly as old or cool as yours but I rescued my Dad’s 2000 F150 from under a pecan tree in my mom’s yard in south Louisiana. My dad bought it new and died from cancer three years later. My mom and my older sister drove it occasionally after that but it has been sitting for over 3 years. Less than 34k miles on it.

That would be awesome. One of my uncles had a Suburban about that year with 4-WD. 4-WD wasn't very common back then.

That is going to clean up really nice.
Good on you for saving it.

Thanks. I wasn’t in the market for a 2000 Ford F-150 but having my dad’s last truck… sort of like having a bit of him with me.

It cleaned up well but still needs to be buffed out. I’ll have to try the baby wipes.

Its awesome what you're doing. Always nice to have something of dad's around.

The baby wipes seem to take off the oxidation but it does nothing for the paint itself. It will still need buffing.

Rock Auto has lots of parts for older vehicles, and decent prices.

Looking good,

Leon

Thanks Leon.

I checked them out and returned some parts to my local NAPA who charged 2 1/2 times what Rock Auto did. Saved me $30 on just a few items.

Shipping is very reasonable too.

I returned NAPA brand parts and bought Gates from Rock.

I bought a few more goodies. I ruined a marker light with the buffer so I bought a new one.
Two new "finger cups" that go in the armrest to pull the door shut and truck 390 engine decals.

I also bought 1 heat range hotter spark plugs for the #5 cylinder
that likes a little extra oil.

I took this picture back on Nov 1st, the day I bought the truck.

I took these two pictures today. I painted the door panel and
put in the new finger cup.

I am going to paint the headliner, trim and visors black too.

Slowly but Shirley its coming along. ;)

Yep, another post. :D

I took the truck out for a short ride here in the canyon.
I can't go too far because I don't have license plates for it yet because
the state hasn't given me a title yet.
:(

I was climbing a small hill in 4-hi 2nd gear and came around the corner and it got steeper with a little snow on it.

This is why I chose the tires that are on it.
They are not snow tires.
They are off-road and mud tire and the work excellent. ;)

The hill was not death defying or anything like that but you still
need a decent tire to get up it.

That 390 with the 4.10 gears are a great combination in this old truck.
