Bought a Shield today - they have 17 more for $499

Ray's Hardware and Sporting Goods in Dallas received 50 Shields yesterday. They have 17 left right now. I bought a 9mm for $499 a few minutes ago after looking forever.

I also purchased a new gun yesterday. I purchased the Ruger Mark III stainless Hunter 6.88 inch fluted bull barrel.

I love shooting my Shield with XS Big Dot sights but I can't stomach the cost of 9mm lately so I decided to go 22lr for shooting entertainment.

It seems to me that maybe the availability of the Shield is getting better?

I bought one yesterday after a long wait. Maybe S&W is ramping up production, or demand is decreasing.

Just called (was hung-up on earlier, that's why I asked). They have the 9's, and it's $499 base.

Russ: After a few weeks with your Ruger, consider a look at the Volquartzen website. All my Rugers are converted using Volquartzen parts. My MKIII Hunter is now a MK II. You need to get a MK II type hammer to do it, but many people make them just for that purpose. I have not yet had a student, that has never shot a firearm before, come away without a great target to post on their refrigerator using that gun.

$499 base price??? OUCH!! I got mine in Mid-December for $399! I guess that's because Georgia is closer to Springfield, MA than Texas is, right?

Last Tuesday someone posted on this site that Bud's had Shields in
both calibers again. I hotfooted it over to their site & got one ordered.
So of course, today my LGS calls & tells me they finally got a 40 in for
me. Sigh...Oh well. Bud's was selling them at retail, but with free shipping. And I don't have to pay tax, so I come out a little ahead. What bugs me is that I could have had it today instead of ten days
from now. But as long as I've been waiting, I can deal with two more
weeks.

Thank you for the tip re. Ray's. I was in LA this a.m. and called two see if I they were still in stock for when I landed. I was able to get two and will pick them up on the way home from airport.
