Bought some Non jacketed ammo

Hello,
I bought some Magtech ammo that is non jacketed. I usually use
FMJ rounds. What inpact if any is the lead on my Model 19? I know
a lot of people probably use non jacketed and I'm sure its no big
deal but I was just wondering if I needed to clean it differently.

I shoot a lot of lead bullets in my handguns. The exception are 9mm guns. My BHP and the Colt Commander 9mm usually are shot with jacketed rounds.

The only thing I do different is check for leading in the barrel periodically.
Pushing some brass wool through the barrel scrapes it out.
Friends use a device called the Lewis Lead Remover to do the same thing.

The rest of the cleaning routine is the same with either kind of bullet.

Cleaning after lead bullet use

I've used many thousands of rounds of cast bullet loads in revolvers and semi-auto handguns.

My cleaning procedure begins with a dry bronze bore brush, usually about 20 or 30 passes through the barrel and chambers. After that, routine cleaning with solvent and patches.

Lead "splatter" on the cylinder face and around the barrel can be brushed away with a dry brush.

Close examination after cleaning may reveal leading deposits in the rifling grooves, barrel throat, and forcing cone areas (more common with swaged lead bullets). A worn bore brush wrapped with 0000 steel wool will remove this with no damage. Another technique to remove stubborn lead deposits is to fire a few jacketed bullets, followed by normal cleaning (I would recommend standard-velocity loadings for this, not +P or Magnum rounds).

Lead bullets will shoot just fine from your M19. As a mater of fact they might be more accurate than jacketed. If you are using the right bullet you won't get any leading, I know I get very little if any leading in my revolvers and even when I do I don't need to pay any special attention to cleaning out the lead. It cleans right up with my normal after range clean-up.
