Boys in Blue

Didn't think I would get this kind of response, I did check with the range officer this morning and that was the combined city and state swat team members, we get quite a bit of business from them and as far as most of us are concerned it is just good business working with law enforcement when you run a shooting club. Since we are attached to a local state park the local park rangers shoot regularly at our club. We been there since 1924 or thereabouts.
As someone familiar with both the 5.56 carbine and 12 gauge shotguns of different configurations I find them both tools with different applications. The 12 gauge is so versatile, everything from bean bags to full on rifled slugs, I would consider it an optimum weapon for law enforcement. Our locals are schooled with the shotgun and 5.56 carbine, I believe they carry both.

Back in the dark ages (the 80's) I went to cop school. We were shown a news video of a fellow outside of a bar with his revolver in a woman's mouth, holding her hostage. He takes the gun out and points it at some cops off screen telling them to get back. The woman slips his grasp and is gone in a flash. Bad guy yells "Hey" at that point he took 32 rounds. Not one a kill shot. We were told mostly .38 and 9mm. Some .45. The officers had to stand on his forearm and stomp his hand as he would not let go of the gun. We were told he recovered stood trial and was jailed. Point, it aint like TV. I'd like a shotgun at that scene. Today we would have 4 other views from different vantage points and all from HD phone cams. Maybe the guy would get the cover of rolling stone. No, who would do that?

Well, there's nothing like one of these threads for expanding one's knowledge, and, the scope of the discussion. I've now learned about "guns 'n' loads" suitable for "hopped up meth heads", padlocks, elephants (tell Karamojo Bell how inferior a light, fast, rifle bullet is to a heavy, slow slug...), defeating engine blocks, and even an informative examination of the efficacy of 12 ga. slugs vs. 5.56 mm bullets as an effective defense against attacking grizzly bears, an important lesson for urban LEO's. All this arising from a remark initially commenting on different platforms rather than ballistics...

Which begs the decision....does it hurt more getting hit over the head with a wooden ball bat or an aluminum one?
