Brand new Colt Custom 100th .38 Super in bright stainless (SHOT IT!!!!)

i have a brite stainless delta. i have always wanted nice MOP grips for it. that holster is nice.

That is marvelous. I think even George Patton would make an exception to the "pimp from a cheap New Orleans whorehouse" rule for that pistol.

Great looking Supers all of them....The perfect auto round...Wish they were more plentiful..Would love to have one......At a 45 price of course..

What a beauty! Colt is still KING of the 1911s. I just found a new background for my computer.

That is just very nice - not much else one can say! :) I have a soft spot for .38 Supers and that one is certainly a Queen.

It's a shame you had to sell your father's gun, but you did it for the right reasons. Enjoy the new gun and be sure that one gets to your daughter - along with the story about the old gun.

Thanks everyone! This one has been a pleasure to share! If I'm lucky, I'll shoot it on Friday. The trigger pull is just a hair over 5 pounds from the factory. It breaks well and has no overtravel. Not bad at all from the manufacturer. I may ask my gunsmith to work a little magic on it though...after I see how it shoots.

mm6-great gun. My .38 super is a little more pedestrian, just a blued steel commander from about 1980. Great shooting pistol:

It's a rather yucky, rainy day out today so I snatched up my camera and opened up my safe. Here's the Colt Custom 100th .38 Super along with my Colt Combat Elite .45 (with Ed Brown sights, beavertail grip safety, bobtail mainspring housing, and cocobolo handles):

I shot the Colt Custom .38 Super 100 Years of Service pistol at the range today. It shot fantastic!

PMC 130 grain +P fmj, Winchester 125 grain +P softpoints, Corbon 125 grain +P hollowpoints, and Winchester 9x23mm +P 125 grain hollowpoints all functioned 100% perfectly!

The 9x23mm ammo really has some serious punch to it. Yes, it functioned great in the Colt with the .38 Super barrel.

Here are 18 rounds (two mags) at 7 yards:

Here are a whole bunch more (I forget how many I shot on this target) at 15 yards:

The Colt shoots to point of aim at 15 yards and a tad little bit low at 7 yards. I'd say it's sighted dead on!

Here's the filthy, dirty muzzle photo:

I shot the pistol with the factory wood grips so as not to damage the mother of pearl handles.

Here's the Colt back in its presentation case after being cleaned right back to like new condition:

I am very, very happy with this handsome Colt!

Nope, 9x23 Winchester:

9x23 WINCHESTER : Ammunition To Go

9x23mm Winchester - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

All About 9x23

There have been custom barrel makers producing 1911 barrels specifically for the 9x23 Winchester cartridge. I bought some factory ammo to shoot in my Tanfoglio EAA Witness and it shot great.

I had some after I sold my Witness to finance this Colt. The 9x23 rounds dropped right in the Colt and loaded from the magazine easily enough. They shot great too. Definitely a whole lot more ooomph when touched off than the .38 Super ammo, even the Corbon.

As apples to apples as possible, using Corbon's own data for their hollowpoint ammo, the following info is on their website:

9mm 125 grain hp at 1250 fps = muzzle energy of 434 pounds
.38 Special 125 hp at 950 fps = muzzle energy of 251 pounds
.357 Magnum 125 gr at 1400 fps = muzzle energy of 544 pounds
.38 Super 125 gr at 1325 fps = muzzle energy of 487 pounds
9x23 Winchester 125 gr at 1450 fps = muzzle energy of *584* pounds
.357 Sig 125 gr at 1425 fps = muzzle energy of 564 pounds
.40 S&W 135 gr at 1325 fps = muzzle energy of 526 pounds
.45 acp 165 gr at 1250 fps = muzzle energy of 573 pounds
.45 acp 185 gr at 1150 fps = muzzle energy of 543 pounds

9x23 Winchester wins! When the power factor in USPSA competitive shooting was lowered from 175 to 165, the 9x23 became unnecessary.

I just had to have a picture of all three of my 1911s together.
