I'm new to this site and also new to Smith and Wesson Handguns. I just bought the M&P 22 and also M&P 9. Thing is when I opened the 22 and checked it out, I noticed right away that the spring or whatever it is on the trigger hinge point was missing. There was ALL the free ply in the trigger. I knew right away it was faulty. Problem is, that the place I bought it from doesn't have any more in stock to replace it and have warned me that Smith and Wesson are slow to ship parts to Canada. Call was made to the Warranty centre and same answer on how slow they are to receive parts.. Either way they both said they will look at it. To me it sounds all pretty simple what's wrong. The question is though? Am I right and if they could ship the spring to my home is it an easy enough fix or let the Pro's deal with it???

I apologize if there is already a thread on this.... Like I said I'm new to the Smith and Wesson world and don't want a $2 spring leave a bad taste in my mouth about M&P handguns.

From what I have heard S&W won't warranty parts unless they put them in. I have not had any experience with S&W CS, I am just repeating what I heard. Congrats on your new guns and I hope you get the 22 issue straightened out soon.

The trigger hinge spring in my M&P22 has fallen out so many times that I have quit replacing it. I just use the pistol without it, albeit range only. The M&P22 hinged trigger is a different design than the regular M&Ps (i.e. compact and full size) and uses a discrete coil spring behind a lever in the lower section. If the lower part of the trigger is pushed too far forward, the spring can just fall out. Piss poor design, in my opinion. The compact and full size M&Ps use a different spring mechanism altogether that can't fall out.

the M&P22 is not made by S&W but Walther...I agree take it back get your money and go somewhere else and buy another one

Thanks for the reply guys. I sent it back to the business I bought it from followed by an email stating that i want a full refund on the pistol. I'll see soon enough I hope if they will once the pistol arrives.

Sent you a PM. If you send it in for warranty, be prepared to wait for 1-2+ years to get the gun back. There's a guy on CGN who sent his M&P 22 in and it's been over 10 months already with no end in sight of getting it back.

Post a link. I've NEVER heard of 10 months from S&W. I've heard a lot of complaining but nothing even approaching that amount of time. Somebody's full of kaka.

The dealer has no option (IMO) but to take it back. They sold you a gun with a recalled part that Smith & Wesson deemed to be unsafe and to stop firing immediately.

Update:

I called today to find out if they had received it. They did and whilst the Sales Manager was on the phone with me he looked it over right there and was like "oh that's not right at all sir, you will In fact receive a FULL REFUND or, by the end of the week we have some M&P's coming in on order. I can ship you one as soon as they are received in the system or right away I will send you the full amount back." I thought for a second and because these guys had the best price that I could find, I agreed to wait. I told him though he has 2 weeks to get a new one to me or I will take the refund and to have an email stating so. 2 mins after the conversation ended, I received the email clearly stating such.

My experience seemed to be a good one with this company and will return my business in the future if when this pistol comes, it is great working condition. He told me that he will personally look it over before shipment :). Hope he sticks to that word.

Thank you guys for the advice and I will sure be on the look out for any future Smith and Wesson problems in the future. This forum site rocks so far, keep it up

It sure was Guy yes. I was a bit pee'd off at first but he straightened it up for me. Turns out the guy I was dealing with was new lol.

It took over 5 months to get a set of replacement grips for my 686. FIVE months. For grips. When I was quoted 4-6 weeks.

What's the trick to getting it to stay in the trigger?

Mine keeps falling out.

That's another matter  I cut the new one a little longer and it has stayed in pretty well so far... It's kind of a trial and error thing...
