I just bought a few boxes of steel cased 9 ammo for my sd9ve. I was wondering if any of you guys had used steel cased and how it performed compared to brass. Thanks.

I have driven out a few of the coated steel cases, but there was no pattern to which guns had trouble. Most didn't.
None of the eastern bloc military pistols had any trouble with steel cases.

I used to be really nervous about using steel cased ammo until I noticed one of my fellow shooters at a steel shoot, who happens to be a gunsmith, happily blazing away with all Russian manufactured, all steel cased ammo out of his Glock 19. True, he is a gunsmith and can fix his own problems, but I figured if it didn't concern him, it shouldn't concern him. Additionally, my CZ-82 (9mm Makarov) has only had steel cased ammo fired through it, and I've never experienced any problems.

Best of luck,

Dave

I don't trust Tula,9mm,380 and 45acp all had problems mainly failure to fire.

Thanks for all the input. I shot about 150 rounds through today and had about 3-4 failure to feeds so I think ill be sticking with brass from now on.

Had no issues with the steel ammo I've shot, including Brown Bear from mother Russia. Shot 250 rounds of the stuff with no issues other than my pistol being a little dirtier than normal after my range session. Apparently this is caused by the primer, and not the casing, although I wonder if that coating on the cases doesn't have an impact...

I've heard this happens because steel cases don't expand to fit the chamber as tightly as brass cases do, and a small amount of gas leaks past them. I don't think it has anything to do with the primers. JMHO

My cz 85db in 9mm luger using wolf steel cased ammo with 3' of Kentucky windage I can ping anything on the 100yard berm. I use steel cased ammo in my Saigas in 223, sks in 7,62x39 & 45acp never a problem yet.

the only steel cased stuff i've ever used has all been Tula, in 9mm, .380 , and .223, but with the couple hundred rounds i've fired of it, i've never had one hiccup. I'll continue to use it, whenever i can get it.

I found Tulammo at wally world for $10.73 when 9mm was hard to find. Had to try it. I have now shot it a lot & other than it being dirty ( I mean to your hands ) I can not tell when I am shooting it or Federal or Winchester.
,
Here a thread I started talking about it :)

I've shot some of the WPA ammo through my SD9VE with no problems, but it did have some issues in my SCCY CPX-2. Another reason I've made my SD9VE my EDC.

Just ate up around 300 rds of Tula 9mm through a 5906 and a Glock 19. No issues.

I used to buy 500 rd cases of Wolf .45 when I was shooting my 1911's a lot. I can't recall ever having a problem. I'm assuming that in the future, people will look at brass cases the way we look at brass shotgun shells and Sony Walkmans.

Academy 9mm

Stuff jammed my gun real good when I first got it, been running it with brass inbetween, it seems to work. The stuff i have some type of coating that may stick when teh gun gets hot...

your mileage may vary, anyone want this stuff?

I've always been told to stay away from cheap bullets like Wolf and Tulammo. I'm currently using American Eagle 124 grain FMJ, and Winchester 115 grain FMJ. No problems with either of these two.

alot of ranges dont like steel cases or core ammo. they ban it. i have no issues with either when it comes to reliably feeding
