Hi all, I felt the need for a bigger brother to my 40shield, so I bought an sd40ve 2wks ago.

I cleaned it, oiled it, then shot about 200rds thru it.(@ the range)

(I was also shooting my shield, (manual safety)), maybe another 100rnds.

The ve's trigger was slightly gritty, substantial travel, heavier than my shield, however, I've owned worse over the years.

I had 1ftf about 1/2 way thru (I'm old & skinny, my right hand & wrist doesn't get the workout it used to, I guess)

My regret was not measuring pull weight b/4 hand.

All shots hit 11x17 paper @ 10yds (1/2 into the rings)

The sd40ve smoothed out & loosed up nicely.
I got home & cleaned everything up, then thought I'd try checking the trigger pull -- 8# avg.

Then I lithium greased the trigger slide bar? & striker release button,
trigger pull is now a consistent 7.5 - 7.75#

It actually feels better (to me) than my shield, which I liked a lot

luck,greg

OH, I was shooting 155gr fed jhp

Thanks for the write-up. Good to hear that your SD is getting better after just one range trip. I thought I was the only lucky one, my SD has been great through the first 400 rds.

Update sv40ve break-in

So, yesterday I ran another 200rnds (180gr Geco fmj) thru er.

Again, a ftf halfway through. (me)

the trigger is very smooth thru' bang, still 7.5 - 7.75#.

When I mentioned that I lithium greased the trigger mechanism, I should mention I used auto chassis amber colored lithium grease.

The white lithium just doesn't seem as slippery to me.

I applied with a jeweler's screwdriver to everything that moves in the trigger/sear mechanism.

The pistol seemed much dirtier than first outing, which I attributed to different (Geco 180 fmj vs. fed 155 jhp) ammo

It did clean up nicely, tho'

All-in-all I really like shooting this pistol, as well as the slow trigger action. works as designed IMO

All said, my EDC is still my 40shield 5.5-6.0# trigger, Hogue handi-grip, pearce mag extensions.

luck,greg

SD40VE New owner myself about 3 weeks ago

Thanks for the post I went thru about 1,300 rd's 155 grain when I first got the SD40 it's sighted well and no problems. I love this firearm. The slide still pulls closer to 8lbs but trigger is ok with me. Enjoy the SD40 and I hope it works well for you.

The trigger will loosen up nicely and smooth out with about 300 live rounds and maybe 500 dry fires. I would recommend using a snap cap for dry firing.

about 750 through mine.
only fails mine has had was my daughter limp wristing.

I like it bulrid8, I usually opt for leather, but I recently got a serpa 25 for my 40cal for backpacking (open carry) as well as an "everyday holsters hybid" iwb (haven't tried it yet).

My shield 40 conceals much better in a "sticky md2" or a "taugua iwb leather"

At least on my frame (6'2", 190# , 34-35" waist)

In the summer I wear t-shirts out, in the winter, anything will conceal IMO

I'm - by the way - over 500rnds thru the sd40ve, zero problems, other than limp wristing on occasion, the trigger has become like silk, (cleaning, polishing, greasing all moving parts)

My LGS says it's the best stock sd40ve action he's felt.

I like a lot

greg
