traded my old 7" model 46 that needed a new extractor and springs, plus a little cash for a 1980 or so era 5" model 41 that honestly looked LNIB and as if it had never been fired. I kept five of the six mags. So farr, I've put about half a brick of Win Wildcats, and half a brick of Fed Champion through it, basicly because those where what I had on hand already. It's had maybe two failures to extract, and maybe five or six failures to eject where the case got cought under the topstrap, and one failure to ignite the primer out of the six hundred or so rounds. I figure being so new, it's going to need some alowance for break-in. Any suggestions how to improve it's reliability would be greatly appreciated. I'm a weekend steel, IDPA, USPSA, shooter and plan to shoot the crap out of this pistol practicing. I was going to buy a holster for it but found it fits perfectly in my Safariland model 567 holster I use for my 1911's. The mags rattle loosely in the Safariland .45 mag holders though. Any suggestions on a good mag pouch to fit these .22 mags? Would also appreciate any low-cost reliable ammo suggestions. Thanks,

I suspect most of the problems are ammo related. .22 ammo is generally very low quality. I don't know what brand to suggest except stay away from Remington golden washed stuff as it is truly garbage. I have about 4k rounds of that left that misfires about one times out of ten. Blazer has been good for me, no guarantees.

The "Go To" ammo for the model 41 is CCI Standard Velocity (CCI SV). It's not a good idea to shoot HV out of a 41 however the discussion of right or wrong is endless. You don't know where it's been so give it a good cleaning and lube.

When I shot my Model 41 years ago, it liked Remington Target and Federals. I found Winchester Wildcats to be to dirty and caused function problems. I would buy a box of 50 rounds of different brands of target or standard velocity ammo and see what shoots the best.

CCI standard velocity is the ammo for that pistol. If you have problems with that ammo, send it to S&W and they will fix it right.

Federal 711B & Wolf Match Target

I have had Model 41's of all Vintages and Barrel Lengths and what worked for me was the above for Match Practice and Winchester Dynapoints for LOTS of Plinking! I would also suggest a Wolff Spring Kit so you can Tweek the ammo to the Pistol!! Just my 2 Cents!!

I believe that Smith and Wesson still uses CCI Standard Velocity to
test fire / accuracy of the model 41.

I have a 5 shot test target from Smith and Wesson
that from my 7 inch barrel model 41 all 5 shots you could cover
with a dime and range was 25 yards with CCI Standard
Velocity ammo.

That was about 15 years ago, that may have changed by
now.

Model 41 Winchester Dynapoints?

Hi all - I have a new/old SN A644xxx coming soon. The seller said he used Winchester dynpoints 1150fps which are reliable and accurate. He said the CCI SV 1070 don't cycle reliably in my new/old gun.

The Dynapoints have a pretty good following on other forums. Any users out there? I wouldn't think the extra 80fps would hurt the Model 41, right? Dick
