Bright Blue!

Picked up a really nice model 29-2 from one of the Forum members recently and just wanted to share a couple of photos. The S&W bright blue is just amazing. When I think of the amount of expertise required to polish metal like this not to mention the machine work and assembly, I can't believe what these guns were selling for back in the 70's. And yes, I know the earlier ones were even better and cheaper.
The overall fit, finish and function is flawless. I can see why there is so much interest in these great handguns. Bob

My Model 57 (.41 magnum, 1979-80) has Bright Blue:

As does my wife's Model 19-3 (.357 mag, 1976).

Beautiful things. I read on this forum (I forget from who) that the even more beautiful bluing on the Model 27 will no longer be permitted due to EPA restrictions.

The EPA gets involved because of the chemicals used in the blueing process (some rather toxic stuff) and even more importantly how companies DISPOSE of these used chemicals is what all the ruckus is about.
The costs they have to pay for disposal outweigh everything else and companies like S&W have to find less toxic materials to do the job...hence lesser quality finishes.
