Bring back the Mod 12 and make a 612

They already did, sort of, in the 1990s, and it was a commercial failure. The Model 315 Night Guard was an aluminum round butt K frame .38 special with a 2 1/2" barrel. The 315's frame was machined for adjustable sights but they left S&W with large fixed rear sights installed to match the height of tritium Big Dot front sights. While alloying the frame metal it was sprinkled with scandium by a fairy's wand but it is still an aluminum frame. The cylinders and some other parts were blackened stainless steel so they could have called it a Model 612. I believe the 315 had the least sales of all the models in the Night Guard line.

I’m another fan of the Model 12. They could bring the Model 12 back as a “Classic” with the 2” barrel, but what I would really like is a Model 312 M&P. A 2” Scandium frame fixed sight round butt. Basically a variation on the 315 Night Guard. Make it a .38/.357 for those who want the option to shoot Magnums, like the 340 M&P offers. Maybe offer a 3” barrel also, providing the full length ejector rod. I’d even put aside my loathing of the “lock” to buy one or two.

Would they sell a boatload of them? No, probably not. It’s nice to dream though. A Model 312 M&P would be ideal for us plain clothes dinosaurs who still carry a revolver everyday.

I'd like to see them make a scandium framed K-frame .357, but i'd be happy with a +P rated .38spl. rnd butt 3" with a heavy bbl in .357 or skinny in .38spl. I think they would sell enough to make it worthwhile. A J-frame is easier to carry but a K-frame would be better if the bell were to ring.............

Easier solution would be to find a nice 12-3 that takes standard K-frame grips and have it hard chromed....

...that said, a 4" tapered barrel, round butt with a strengthened aluminum/scandium frame and titanium cylinder would be interesting...

A 12-3 takes the same stocks as all the earlier variations. It is the 12-4 that uses the standard K-frame stocks.

HCL3.

A stainless Model 12 would be a Model 64! Already done many years ago, and there are thousands on the used market. You have a lot to learn about S&W son.

Nope. the Model 64 was a stainless Model 10. A stainless Model 12 would be a Model 612 with an alloy frame, stainless barrel, and stainless cylinder.

If they'd have made more than 700+ of the damn' things they wouldn't have been a commercial failure! They were out of production before I even heard about them! Hell, I could have carried two of them instead of the Model 686-6 that I carried for years!

No, you are defining your impression of what the gun should be. A Model 12 is nothing more than a Model 10 with an Aluminum frame. There is nothing in OPs original "Stainless Model 12" request to indicate mixed construction instead of all-stainless! As I said, an all-stainless Model 12 would be a Model 64. If you want mixed construction you better specify what is made of what. You did, but OP did not!

The OP did specify airweight k frame which a model 64 is certainly not.

No lock please.
