bring back the s&w model 547 9mm revolver

Mike,

I suspect the recoil force was from the bullet entering the forcing cone, but I have no way of substantiating the suspicion. The bullet mix up was the only mistake in many years of reloading and it surely will not repeat.

December is rapidly approaching and you will soon meet your new girl. You must post photos of the happy event.

16shells,
Good thing you don't live on my block otherwise there would be a struggle.

I bought one of those little 547s when they first came out, and like a dumb A** I traded it.

It was a sweet shooting little revolver. The extracting system worked flawlessly. Even had speed loaders for it. Great little gun. It would shoot anything that resembled a 9mm, it wasn't picky like most of the semi's.

If I find one in good shape I'm getting it, don't care how many grandkids I have to sell in the slave trade to get it.

Spoken like a true 547 affecionado! Hope you find one at a lower price.

Why? with all the poly guns out there in umteen different configs for everyone that walks the earth. Still I say why?

People love revolvers, hate bending over to pick up brass, and 9mm is the cheapest center-fire ammo available. Get on it S&W! Build these guns!

snw,
The S&W 547 does not use moon clips, it has unique extractor system. Ruger make a Six, in 9 mm, for the foreign market a few years back that also did not require moon clips.

Never heard of it. I have a couple of the Speed Six 9mm that do require moon clips.

Where did you hear about Ruger making one that didn't use them?

weasel is down

I'd like 1 too . I'd like mine basically the identical size as my m&p 360 . just my wooden nickels wrth .

Elmer,
I read about it on a foreign forum. Will have to see if I recorded the site. I also have a pair of Speed Sixes which require moon clips.

I never saw one, and I spent quite a bit of time with the Ruger folks. If they had it, and it worked, I don't know why they wouldn't have marketed it here.

Only saying what I read on a foreign forum and I do not know any Ruger folks.

I'd go for a re-issue of the 547, but why not add the option of a .38 Sp. or .357 conversion cylinder to go with it? Ruger sold a fair number of their Blackhawks with that option, and it's nothing S&W hasn't done before with the Mod. 53 and with some of their .45 LC/.45 ACP offerings. It was a while back, but I recall the reviews on the Ruger convertible Blackhawk found excellent accuracy with both 9mm and .357 ammunition.
I'm not sure about the idea of the .357 Sig in a revolver. It's a nice round, but probably not enough benefit to outweigh the difficulties. The history of the Model 53 illustrates the issues of shooting bottle-neck cartridges in a revolver. Granted, almost all the problems were traced back to people leaving oil in the chambers, but why ask for trouble. Bad enough to deal with the rimless cartridge extraction issues without adding in setback problems and the necessarily thinner chamber walls you'd need to accommodate the fatter rounds.

I'll add my vote for a new 547. In blue or stainless. I have greatly enjoyed my 3" example.

The added expense to manufacture would be quickly recouped by the lower ammo costs for those that hit the range regularly.

Played with a Charter Arms .40s&w snubbie a while back. They have the no moon clip cylinder down I was really impressed. Snappy loading no hangups ejecting. That was the problem I heard a while back with rimless cartridges. Smith could do it in 9mm and 40 there certainly is a market for defensive snubbies. Taurus makes a 9mm 'j-frame'.

I have a 547 I bought used back in the 80's. It didn't come with a shipping box or anything else. It had rubber grips. Bluing has no wear marks, except for a slight line where the slide stop drags over the cylinder, there is a faint line visible. I've only shot it a couple times. Shoots good. I'd let it go if I'm ever offered a price a can't refuse. I like the little gun, it doesn't eat, when not worked, so I'm in no hurry to sell it off.

This is such an awesome thread I wanted to put it back at the top. Sounds like these guys back in 2011 all wanted the 547 to to be brought back as badly as I do!
