Picked up 2 boxes of Brit 9mm ammo at a gunshow yesterday. Pasteboard box with green print.

48 cartridges
9 m/m
Mark IIz
[broad arrow over]
I.S.A.A

Rounds have headstamp;
H^N 44
ZII
9 m/m

Anyone know if this is pistol or SMG fodder?

In the headstamp, you've read the ZII upside down. As in the box marking, it should be Mk IIZ, the Z indicating granular powder instead of Cordite. With a 1944 date, I'd surmise it to be Sten fodder, but others better versed in Brit. ordinance will probably be along to correct if I'm wrong.

After some search , I found a British ammo forum (:confused:) and it was said that the Mk.IIz is much hotter than the Mk.Iz.

Your ammo was made by the Royal Ordnance Factory, Hirwaun, UK. The ammo was made for use in both SMGs and pistols. Years ago I fired about 60 rounds of this stuff in my Glock. Some of the rounds had degraded and barely cycled my G19, but no squibs. If you decide to shoot your ammo, watch for potential squibs.

Thanks!

Don't know if I'll fire it. If I do , it'll be thru something strong like my Star 30M or CZ-75.

I've got some other hot Brit 9mm that was imported awhile ago. L7** or something.

Probably the L7A1 124FMJ made by Hirtenberger of Austria for the Brits to use in their Sterlings. Very hot ammo. The L7A1 that I've shot clocked 1279fps out of my G19. Pretty fast for a 124gr pill. Still have a 1200 rnd can of this ammo.
