so these sigmas didn't do so well and were discontinued after only a few years.

i picked up a sw9m nib when a local shop was going out of business. i knew it was not a range gun and at the time it was very light and thin for a carry 9mm. it worked well enough for the job it was made for. i only had feed problems with the longer OAL JHP ammo. never any problems with other ammo as long as you had a firm grasp on the pistol. it is a blow back action so recoil was heavy for a 9mm.

i am now needing to send this pistol to s&w to be fixed. i read that s&w is not fixing them but looking to get them out of public hands. i have read of new model pistols being offered or a discount voucher.

does anyone know what s&w is currently offering as a replacement for the older subcompact sigmas?

thank you for the help.

my guess is a new sigma. But a voucher wouldn't surprise me.

Ask for a new bodyguard if you want to stay with .380 and small. Or take what they give you. and then go buy a Kel-Tec. I like my PF-9. :)

i just sent a sw9m to s@w for work. they wouldnt fix it but instead offered me a new full size sigma. after a little discusion i am now waiting on a 908s compact single stack 9mm coming fed ex free of charge. really wanted a m@p compact but couldnt get them to go for it. id send it in and see what kind of deal you could work out. i was a little leary myself but i speaketh the truth. I wonder what they would give you in exchange for one of the 380 models? Are they trying to get that model off the street as well?

do they make a 380? i think the backup is the only 380 they make so that would have to be the only suitable exchange. i think it has to be the same caliber but they might work out a deal with you. thats what they did with me. you can call them but they will just tell you that they cant tell you anything untill you send it in. im not a 380 fan but i love that backup 380. tiny little gun.

YEa, back in the day they made a Sigma 380 with cheap alloy slide.
The bodyguard is a vast improvement.

I realize this is an old thread but has anyone sent a SW380 back in the last year or so? I have a SW380 and was thinking of trying it but do not want another Sigma but would like to have a 908 or Bodyguard. Just wondering. Thanks

It is tough to say.

I highly doubt you will get a Sigma seeing as they have been discontinued for almost a year now.

I see S&W doing 1 of 3 things.
1. A new SDVE
2. A new .380 Bodyguard
3. A voucher toward the purchase of another S&W.

Keep in mind your gun would have to be broke, and them not having the parts to fix. They also don't do trade ins, so the gun would have to be broke or malfunctioning.

I actually just got mine (I bought it used) back from SW after the slide broke after about 30 rounds. I was surprised to have gotten it back with a replaced slide! Don't think I want to fire this gun any more, she'll be going up for sale. Here are pics of the damage.

I am happy to report I sent in two old Sigmas I had from the mid 90's, one a SW9M and the other a SW380. The SW9 had some irregular waves forming on the slide and it started to look like structural integrity would be compromised so I sent it back and the SW380 I sent back as it misfires all the time.

I just got a call from S&W and they told me that they are replacing the SW9M with a new M&P 9mm, and I needed to give them my closest gun shop for delivery. So far that is extremely awesome service as they just received the weapon on Friday.

I am still waiting to hear back on the SW380, but with any luck they will replace it as well.

Gentlemen; both the SW9M and the SW380 are considered obsolete by S&W. No parts, no service, and no support for those 2 models. That's good and bad. From an engineering standpoint, both pistols are in the same league as a Jennings/Lorcin ***. Just die cast junk! From a size standpoint, they were just great! Too bad someone let S&W build the dang things that way. Neither pistol could handle 200rds before just falling apart.
However, S&W seems to recognize their mistake and will help the customer get something else that works. I wound up w/ a new 908 when I tried to get help w/ a SW9M that just did not work. Of course that was several years ago and the 908 is considered obsolete, as well. All 3rd generation guns are considered obsolete. Look how hard it's becoming to find replacement parts for them. Sad but true.

Just thought I'd chime in with my recent SW380 experience.

After reading this thread I thought I'd send my broken sw380 in just to see what would happen. Mine had a broken trigger return spring, and a cracked trigger assembly.

To jump to the punchline: They fixed it, but S&W blew me away with their prompt response, turnaround, and they didn't charge me a red cent! They paid for shipping both ways, and replaced the parts no charge. The total turnaround from when they received my gun until I had it delivered to my door fixed, was exactly 16 days!

I was waiting for them to tell me it was unfixable and send me a discount voucher, which I would then use to buy an M&P 9, but I'm going to get one anyway.

Due to the way they handled this repair, they have won a fan.
