Broken hammer pivot pin

I have in my possession a Model 66-2, (not mine), that has been neglected (exposed to moisture)for a number of years. In the attempt to make the gun function, the hammer pivot pin sheared off. The broken portion of the pin is still in the hammer, to give you an idea of the degree of neglect.
The gun has been disassembled except for the rear sight assy., and the thumb latch assy., and the entire peice needs cleaning.
Should I return all the parts to the factory for cleaning, inspection, repair, and re-assembly? Or just return the frame and the hammer for repair? I am comfortable with the cleaning and re-assembly, but my thinking is go all out and have it done by them.

If the stud snapped off, yes it goes back to the factory.
The gun will need refinishing also.

S&W just phoned, the revolver is not repairable!
Well, at least I'll have some extra parts.

FYI this part is available from Numrich for about $2.50 plus shipping. It might not work but you can always try fixing it yourself. Right now what have you got to loose?

I have seen one that had the same thing happen. The owner carefully drilled out the pin and fitted a new one. He made the new one. It can be done.

This morning, I received the 66-2 back from S&W.
As I stated earlier, they informed me the gun was not repairable. On the box it was shipped in(inner box), there is a note stating the barrel was badly pitted and the gun was unsafe.
Okay I can accept that!
BUT I would like to repair it, just to do it.
Numrich has the part i need listed under Model 66, but none are listed under 66-2.
Does any one know if the part is the same diemention?

The pivot pin should be the same for both the 66 and the 66-2. Also, an authorized S&W repair center may repair the revolver for you.

The hammer pivot pin is staked in place from the inside and can be replaced. There is a dealer in Florida that has the pins, or did last time I was in there, or get it from wherever. As far as the part in the hammer, if it is a forged hammer, it is much harder than the pin and you should be able to drill it out without hurting the hammer. Give it a shot I say.
