i can see both sides. This could have been a weak spot in the material used 10+ years ago? cleaning solvents could have weakened it over time? i surely hesitated over buying this since it was not aluminum in the first place.
surely this is not the first one to crack! anybody else have this happen to them. i did not see what happened to cause it.

If they won't fix it, you could 3D print the lower. I believe there is a free file on the internet!

Not being funny but maybe try one of the super adhesives?

i should have used gorilla glue!

at first they said we will change the SN plate and send it back to you once i paid the $175.00 bill for a new lower.
so i been waiting....
breakdown on price was $25 for new lower the rest LABOR AND RANGE test fee! 🥺
i
got a call for my local ffl info to send it to? ah duh?
another $25 to $50 ( not sure of their current ffl fee?)

but they said if you submit that to us ,they should reimburse you for that?
i said when you get his ffl lisc ,why dont you pay his bill?
or have him send you the bill?

so i asked, i just came back from wyoming shooting 1500rds, can you at least strip clean the upper?

they should? we'll see?

If they replace the part (the lower) with the original serial number plate, why can't they just send it back to you?

Were you to attempt an adhesive repair I would try to reinforce it with some metal. Either that or fill part of that upper grip area with JB Weld and then drill & tap some screws through holes in the plastic into the JB Weld.

It might end up being stronger than the original...?

Cheers!

What happened that it broke?

no idea how it broke? went to use and saw the crack, honestly

still waiting...i would highly recomend not sending your *** plastic ,composite lower back to S&W ,

GLUE IT YOURSELF!

that is what they said they were going to do in the first place! guess they changed their minds!
i asked them and they wouldnt answer that!?

I am not happy at all with them over a $24.00 part!!!!!
their cost on the lower they said was $24 on the invoice!
all the rest was labor and testing. now ffl

she said this past friday when i was trying to get an update as i sent them my ffl info before Christmas, that she will definitely call me back Monday ot Tuesday also. guess they forgot to do that too....as i did not get a call
i still have no idea what they are doing!

A Psychic perhaps? That's a weak point on these, civilian ARs, military issue.

yup,good call! i agree

i should have glued it or thrown it away! vs paying so mu c k.

just a note for the next guy that breaks one

glue it or toss it

Sorry to hear about your pain, there are some things here that don't make sense to me on S&W's side. I sent firearms back twice and as long as the serial number remains the same, it should get shipped right to your door. Both times Fedex was used, sending to S&W and returned to me by S&W???
Anyway, did they give you any idea what they think might have happened??? Please continue to update us on this saga.

they supplied no info on why it cracked and nor do i know.

i only sent it in one time

first time i called to check on it , they said they were going to change the serial tag on new lower to matxh my sn#, and replace the lower , and send it back. cool,,, i paid the $176 bucks. never got the gun?
i waited a few weeks and called back and they said they were going to replace the lower and it will have a new serial plate and will require a ffl! i already paid the bill!

i said WAIT A MINUTE. that is not what was said the first time i called.
i gave them my ffl contact info and told them there foes another $50 for transfer fee! they said to turn in in to customer service, they maybpay that? may? and heard nothing for 3 more weeks.
so i called back again...no freaking idea whats going on, gave ffl info again and she said she will call me back by mon or tue.....still waiting and now its thursday.

next time i call them ill tell them to send my broken piece back and ill glue it , with a refund!

Find a local FFL that operates from his home. No transfer should cost $50 for a firearm you already own. Guy I have used for 15 years costs $10 and lives about 5 min from me.
