Brought Home a 686 Plus

Hi everyone,

Found this 686-8 today at LGS in really nice shape. It has the 3" barrel and is a 7-shot.

Serial is CTS46**, any idea on age would be awesome.

A 3" 686 is a pleasure to shoot, and a joy to behold. Lose those rubber grips and get something nice in wood. I recommend Ahrends boot grips in oiled coca bolo.

I got one and I love it. I got Uncle Mike's grips from S&W on close out sale and they do help with CCW. It goes well with my 686 plus 6 inch.

I think the -8s are still in production, so it is relatively recent. Did it come with a fired test cartridge in an envelope? That will have a date on it.

My first handgun and still my favorite. I bought the Talo with rosewood grips and carry in an OWB Lobo Leather holster with a thumb break.

Considering that it has the new style of rubber grips, I'd say it was built sometime in the last few months. Those started appearing this year, around April-May.

I saw those grips as early as late last summer. I think september to be exact

Perfectcircle, you may be right. I remember hearing about them but started seeing them on the Smith & Wesson website in the early Spring. I didn't actually see one in person until a few month's ago. Guess they may have been transitioning over the past year.

I have the exact same but I put magna grips on mine.

Going by the new grip design, yours would be no more than two years old.
