Budget 9MM Plinking

Freedom Munitions remanufactured are the best range ammo. All their ammo is 1st rate. I go thru thousands of rounds that ammo, both "new" and "reman". Never a FTF. This weekend $5.00 shipping. I all ready stocked up. Should be good till January.

Why not take the plunge and re-load your own:
I re-load untold thousands of 9mm and other calibers each year.
My plinking/practice 9mm reloads consist of Winchester primers(when available) 125gr lead bullet and 3.8 gr of Winchester 231. The last time I totaled this up I believe it was running about $6.00 per box of 50.

I have yet to find an online deal where shipping doesn't make the item more expensive than what I walk out of WW with in hand, no waiting.

I haven't been buying lately, but when I first got into shooting, I was buying cases. That is the only way you can beat a local deal like Wal-Mart. Even then, about the best I could do was just a little better than breakeven. Another thing to keep in mind is stores like Cabela's and Gander Mountain have free ship to store. That can make a real difference if you have this type of store near you.

9mm "practice ammo" prices have been falling steadily with "sales" being done routinely now.

Places like Gander Mountain, Cabela's, Palmetto State Armory(PSA), Natchez, etc.) have been selling Blazer Brass and/or Magtech 115 FMJ for as little as $10.99 per box of 50 and free shipping.

And while I have no doubt that the re-man stuff from Freedom Munitions is perfectly fine, my personal preference is to get the virgin brass stuff when the prices are basically equivalent.

No matter how desperate I get for ammo... I will never run any steel cased pistol ammo through my 3rd gens, the risk of breaking the hook of an irreplaceable extractor is too great.

Another Freedom Munitions fan here.

Thousands of rounds fired without issue.

Plus I participate in their brass trade in program saving me even more.

Today, more ZQ for the AR, but they were well stocked. I spied something new I haven't seen, Winchester 124 gr NATO so I got two boxes to try out. :D

Thanks for all the feedback. I went ahead and got 500 rounds from Freedom Munitions at around $0.19 per round shipped. As long as it's decent ammo, which it sounds like it is, this is really about the cheapest I've seen it anywhere. Outside of reloading, I can't imagine I would be able to find anything under $10 per box.

Your going to wish you bought more. Get on the E mail list, they are starting to run alot of specials lately.

Anyone have any experience with Wolf ammo? I've heard some bad things about Tulammo and have stayed away from it.

Bad, as in FTFs and FTEs, ruptured primers.

I've used many, many, many CANS (440 round cans) of Tula ammo in my Mosinnagant 9130 rifle.
I never had a miss fire or non eject.
Now, this was Russian surplus ammo not the new stuff.
I just purchased some Tula 9mm for my SD9VE, but haven't shot it yet.

Reading this thread is interesting. For every shooter that only shoots factory ammo, there is an equal horror story about brand X ammo failing for one reason or another. Especially if its loaded in another country.

Hand loaders believe their ammo is loaded to higher quality control than the mass produced, price point ammo.

And anything loaded by anyone else borders on risk..commercially reloaded ammo must be suspect by its very nature.

Where is one to buy ammo they are 100% confident in...LOL.

What would Skeeter and his pine cone do in such confusing times?

$5.00 shipping at Freedom Munitions this weekend. Seems that things are almost getting back to pre 2008 supply. Even Wally World has shelves full of everything except 22LR. Now Wally World prices are still high, but at least you can get some in a pinch.

Today I shot 100 rounds of 9mm Tula .
Ran flawlessly through the SD9.

Stick to Federal, Winchester, and Remington out of Wally World? :D

Seriously, that's some of the fun. Buying a box and taking it out and seeing how it will do. That old "your mileage may vary" saying seems to have more meaning these days.

Just got the package from Freedom Munitions, so I'll give it a try this weekend. The Magtech has been flawless so far, but I'm hoping FM will work well as it's slightly cheaper. I'll update once I get a few rounds of the FM through.

My local Gander Mtn. has had UMC bulk 9MM for $269/1000 (27 cts. per round). a little higher than you're looking for, but....
