I love my Sport II for it's simplicity, and I don't want to hang a bunch of stuff on it. But I'd like an inexpensive drop in key-mod hand guard. I hate the looks of Magpul hand guards, but really can't see paying much more. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I can vouch for the B5 handguard.

Things to keep in mind:

  • With a front sight post being 0°, the keymod slots are at 45° intervals. Great for affixing a light on your support side hand. Useless for anything else.
  • Key Mod is going to go the way of the do-do. M-Lok is the system gaining traction.

The B5's biggest attraction for me is that it is a slim diameter oval with heat shields. It is very comfortable to hold for fast lateral transitions. Because it is about as lightweight as you can get, you're not adding any additional weight to the forend. Less weight up front, less mass and momentum to arrest during lateral transitions.

If you can delay gratification just a little while longer to accrue the necessary funds, I'd go with a Midwest Industries 17M drop in.

In return for the added cost:

  • M-Lock slots at 90° intervals.
  • Top rail.
  • 5 anti-rotation QD sockets.
  • Two piece drop in

If you would be interested in the m-lok, I got one of the viper strike ind. handguards and am very happy with it, and it's only 27.95. Megatron 404
