43c can’t make it threw a full cly.

Ok report .. they repaired the yoke, replaced the firing pin.
The firing pin is round ?Old one was flathead, screwdriver, type ? And an extra replacement I got was not the round . …works
I shot punch then velocitors then stingers for three cylinders each so 72 rds NO MIFIRES easy ejecting , cleaned then shot golden boy 2-cylinders 7 of 8 fired both times both times 2Nd strike fired ,then cci target 40gr copper 2 cylinders six of eight fired both times.fired on 2nd strike and one 3 times to go off.,then federal 40 grain champion 1200 ft./s one cylinder six of eight fired 2 on second strikes.
So as I know this gun is going to be a carry gun and practice gun for my 642. I will only shoot velocitors, stingers and punch out of it. I’ll play around with my cheaper ammo with the other .22s …
So they fixed it .. sorta, but I know every 22 is temperamental as ****. As long as I know, the other three defensive rounds types..will go off every time I don’t mind misfires on the ranch. kind of helps you know how ****** your trigger control is.lol at least now I know I have some kind of protection around me and on me when this crazy election time comes up five weeks to get it repaired not bad.

I kinda thought to get a s&w for 700 it should go bang on all types of ammo… I feel ripped off.after the election settles down. I’ll send it in again. It’s supposed to fire on all types of ammo, and I had the cylinder jam up on me once..using Remington vipers .for now I’ll shoot punch, stingers .try other brands for now … I really do feel ripped off should of went m63 or ruger

Ya so far only three types of rounds work 8 of 8 ,
No bulk ammo yet works ,best I get is 6-7 of 8 from fed, golden boys, cci target ,vipers ,I’ll try blazer and American and Winchester today.i wanted to have this as my New York reload to my 38 thinking that it was the exact same gun, I’d get good practice out of it.i’ll replace the springs with #9 and #13 most likely replace the round firing pin with the slotted one.and see if I can shoot more of a variety of 22 if not, I will put the old springs back in sell it .get a steel M 63 hell even a charter arm stainless steel would be better than this. I did a lot of research before I bought this and figured that the complainers were a few and that I would get lucky I guess not. I do not believe I’ll ever buy another new Smith & Wesson. three years ago I bought a model 41 and it couldn’t get through three magazines without not working. it’s a shame because this sure is a nice little light gun. The reason I bought a 22 is for cheap ammo not $10 a box ammo. There’s no way in hell I should have to work on my own gun. Send it in twice to Smith & Wesson to have it work right I’m having a hard time even looking at it at this moment.. the cylinder jamming up not wanting to go back in was pretty much when I said I don’t like this gun anymore. It was the first time it did it to me and that’s after I got it back. I never fired the stingers are punch in it before I sent it, so I don’t think that they did anything to it that helped .

Be sure to measure the length of the firing pins. You want the longest one, regardless of the shape of the point. Heavier springs will help. Use the lightest rebound spring that returns the trigger well after installing the heavier hammer spring.

Lol ..ok so I changed the springs to wolf springs #9 hammer #13 rebound with new firing pin round type ,the one they sent me with the returned gun it replaced and was round. It was a red c—- hair longer. tryed ..she did much better but still some missfires on cci target ,fed ,golden boys . Changed the #13 for #11 rebound ,put slotted firing pin now fires eight of eight on all rounds. Butt twice the trigger stuck ,quick clean of cylinders fires, eight of eight no trigger sticking. I put about 150 rounds through it before it started sticking. And those were Remington vipers which seem to have a big explosion. I think it may have pushed the brass out of the cylinder sticking some so I’m not the gun malfunctioning .i might try #13 later if trigger sticks…. O all of the reading payed off ..seems the gun likes #9 hammer and #11 rebound springs . I have the round firing pen if things go sour, I’ll put it in.also the mothership did fix the shaving problem. I was having no more lead buildup barrel cylinder area. I did notice an area. It looks like they may have took a Dremel tool to where the hammer hits the firing pen top section of the frame looks like somebody took a Dremel tool to aluminum to make room that was them.so thanks for this forum..it helped now I can play .10 yards I put 7 of eight on a 12x12 plate hip shooting cowboy style double tapping so I am loving this gun now I’ll see that’s all it takes just for it to work right and people will love you get that remember that government just saying.

You might want to try a 12 pound rebound spring. Better trigger return than 11, lighter trigger pull than 13.

Congrats on getting it working!

I honestly think it was operator error .I think I was trying to single shot it and didn’t release the trigger fast,it got hung up. It was dirty.
I didn’t see 12# just used what I had 11-#13. Have shot about 50 -golden boys everything fine ,only one having problems is the cci 1250 target don’t think the gun likes them 6 of 8 or 7 of eight every time . Cci target 1050fps work fine . And rem vipers suck sticky ejection, and both times are the vipers that the trigger stuck.even fed blue box champions fire eight of eight..so good for now .also all 100 punch fired ,all 100 stingers fired,100 velocitors all fired …she can work defensively as my New York reload. With confidence. and our neighbors just spotted a cougar and a cub 5 acres from us so I’ll go out and shoot a little more just to discourage somebody from coming by.

Two suggestions:
1) Don't be afraid to send it back to S&W a second (or even a third) time to get it fixed 100%.
2) Don't let the would-be grammar/spelling "teachers" discourage you or drive you away.

"Big Blue" is BY FAR the best place to learn about anything/everything to do with S&W firearms - hands down.

If you ignore the pedantic people you can access a real treasure-trove of knowledge about all things S&W right here.

There is more knowledge about S&W firearms on this site than you are likely to find on ALL the other S&W internet sites COMBINED.

I've got a 317 and other than a STIFF double action trigger-it works as advertised. Have never shot a 43c but if it's trigger is anything like my double action trigger in the 317, I would not want it.

I’ve never shot or even seen a 43c but admit the attraction of the short barrel. Honestly the only thing I’ve read about them has been negative and all the negative comments scared me off. Like Cajunlawyer my wife and I both bought 317’s and they’ve been flawless. My wife got hers used and the finish was pretty worn but was mechanically fine. She’s had it probably 5 years and I’d guess she’s put 10,000 rounds through it, no exaggeration. She really loves it.

I take it back about functioning flawlessly, it went out of time and started spraying lead. Smith took care of it out of with no charge and it’s functioned perfectly through thousands of rounds.

I liked hers so much I bought one. Although I’ve not put nearly as many rounds through mine it’s functioned perfectly.

Neither of our 317’s are particular about ammo. Both handle anything we put through it with no issues. Accuracy out of the 3” barrel is very good and the adjustable sights / fiber optic are excellent. When we go to the range with our 317’s we’ll shoot several hundred rounds each and often never have a misfire and if we do it’s the ammo not the gun. Both guns put a heavy dent in the rim.

My only complaints are the heavy double action. Single vs action is excellent but the double action pull will wear your finger out. Second is the factory finish is ****. Smith put the CC worst finish I’ve ever seen on these. It basically soft paint they won’t hold up very long. I called smith about what to clean it with and they suggested a couple of products. Most cleaner as they said will attack the finish. So I generally use CLP which does a good job. My wife had hers stripped an cerakoated which was a big improvement. She discovered that wiping it down with a silicon cloth before shooting and then occasionally during shooting really makes it easier to clean.

The 43c is a get off me gun -New York reload .its not a target pistol ,after I replaced the springs ,it goes bang every time and I’m hitting 12x12 plate at 40 yards at will now witch is way more than its roll ,but fun ,just pull the trigger fast and a lot ,in a fight you’ll never aim at 1-10 feet ,and as a ex-army medic 8 .22lr holes will f—- u up ,sure it’s not a 454 . A hole in a vital is a hole in a vital and you will need medical help. and by the looks of it 99% of the time first shot wins and everybody is running like hell hopefully even you. I do wanna get a 10 shot 22 3 inch 4“ barrel but I have a Ruger 1022 charger with the 6 inch barrel so I really don’t need one. I think for the price that diamondback sidekick birdshead with a 3 inch barrel. Looks like a lot of fun from an old Sass shooter. but I do have to say my 642 and this model 43 C with 2 inch barrels are a real nice challenge to shoot. And with the 43 C, I can practice on draw and first fire shot and it’s working really well. I have fired much more practice rounds in the last week two weeks than I have in six months. You have to remember it’s not a target pistol it’s a defensive pistol. I’m on the ground and I don’t want you on top of me pistol. just saying in my mind the 317 is a completely different pistol than this and they shouldn’t even be compared and if you do the work, the gun works fine

Take a look at the M340. It is just like the M43c except it is in .357mag. It has a XS big dot night site with. U notch rear site. I have both M43c & M340. I bought the M43c for the same reason you did. I had a gunsmith do trigger jobs on both guns. I’m glad you have resolved the issues you were having. I shot a groundhog with my M43c

43c firing on all cylinders all the time ,knock on wood. I like it so much now I only carry it. I did just buy an m63 3 inch for the ranch. stainless steel and I shoot a lot around the ranch.like 100rds easy a day. I don’t wanna wear out my beautiful 43C now. figured the Smith & Wesson 63 being steel will outlast 10,000 shots .now I can just put punch in the 43C or stingers and practice all up close and personal get the F off me gun and it’ll work for a long time. Sold my 642 38 I am on disability and 38 AMmo cost way too much for me to have fun with and I only get a couple shots on target compared to the 22. And as an ex army med I still say eight holes in vitals is better than two or three I might get off in the five shot 38. i’m expecting the 3 inch model 63 to be a lot better performer, at 50 and 75 yards.lol with the 43c I’m good for 25 yards , but after that that 2 inch barrel double action I’m all over the place, lol I need to get a squirrel attention at 50-75 yards the 63. Will do that for me if I could see that far., without my reading glasses to see my sites I hate getting old

I just got another groundhog with my M43c this morning.

Nice what range . I got one once in North Dakota from the back of a pick up truck with a 9 mm at about 150 yards surprised everybody and Me not sure if it was a groundhog or a badger. The fracking fields were a wild place I loved it there.

I've owned double action 22 revolvers from Colt, Smith, Ruger, High Standard, Taurus, and Charter Arms. None of them were 100% reliable on double action. Single action yes, double action no. My Smith 18 is probably the best of the lot, but even it will give the occasional misfire.
