Buds has the 3" and 4" model 10s again

10-4????

So I got two of the 3 inch buds model 10s. Both are marked 10-4 one has the matching serial number on the grip panel, but it is not a double diamond. Both are c9xxxxx serial numbers. Both have the narrow front sight blade. Both have a great lockup, very tight. I have read that model 10-4 were only made for a very short period in 1962, but I would put these two I have in the 1967-8 timeframe according to the serial numbers and the grip with the matching number. Any one have an idea of how many 10-4s are out there? Would it be prudent to dump another 50 into the gun for a letter to S&W to satisfy the curiosity of these two? Any onehave more information on these 10-4s?

My bank account showed the debit immediately, and I got an order confirmation by email immediately, followed by two more email with tracking number and order status. If none of these occurred, then my assumption is it didn't go through.

Thanks Quaker - your post helped me recall that while working through Bud's checkout and e-check procedure, I was having intermittent problems with my internet connection, and the transaction did not go through.

Did it all again last night, with a good connection and all went well, with email confirmations and all.
Looking forward to picking it up, but it will probably arrive at my shop on one of my 'off' days. It is nice not having to pay transfer fees.

AFAIK, if there was some engraving or police markings..fine. But, for me, the stickers had to go. The guns "history" is written all over mine. First part was dirt and residue from it rarely being cleaned. That went away too. Second part is the scratches and nicks as it appears as much effort went into proper handling as the cleaning. My Pittsburgh police model 64 has about 1/5 the amount of scratches as this model 10. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but looking it over makes me shake my head at the thought of it's past treatment.

Same with mine.
I think the Aussie cops just used their revolvers as boomerangs.
Just throw 'em at the perps.
Saves a lot on ammo and the guns are nearly unfired.

Picked mine up today. 4" HB SB, finish is rough, although the gun is fairly clean, and the trigger is nice. Has original S&W grips, which are nearly worn smooth. As long as its shoots well I'll be happy, its pretty much what I exepcted and wanted. Its a 10-10 sn BJC61xx anyone help with a date?

Got a pic of the new pistol, and got a chance to put some rounds through it as well. I am very pleased, it is a shooter, one of the more accuarate revolvers I've shot, and the double action trigger is very slick.

These were shot double action offhand at about 15 yards using 158g LSWC handloads. The more I shot, the better my groups got, shot a total of 24rds. I burnt my trigger finger today at work, and it was pretty tender, think the pistol was more capable than the shooter today, but I'm still pretty happy with the results.

Got my 3 incher, finish looks like this one was used as a boomerang too. :D Mine came with the no-name stocks.

After cleaning up, the piece seems tight after all. No endshake, no push off, carry up and timing is all good. Looking forward to shooting it.

SN is D624xxx. Any idea when this 10-5 was made?

SCSW says 1973-74, most likely 74.But...

Got mine Tuesday the 7th. Put 150 rounds through it today. Great shooter accurate, with good action. No bobbles, squeaks or hangups, totally reliable. Likes 158 gr SWCs. Nice power to weight ratio and 3" makes it quite concealable.

I put a set of altamont Magnas on and a Tyler T grip. Find some Remington FBI loads and this gun is ready to carry in my Lobo Pancake.

Ha...seen much much worse in service here...!!!! ;)

VicPol firearms were handled more than most as till recently (it may even have only started with the M&Ps being issued) the revolver was not a personal issue but a station issue, drawn and returned at the end of shift. In many cases they were not stored in a proper arms locker but a small safe and were just piled up in there.

In NSW the revolver (and now Glock) was issued at Goulburn (the academy) and remained with an officer for the duration of their service (my best friend, well more like my father, was in the first NSWP class issued the Model 10s (1966) and retained the same revolver (looked worse for wear but was 100% functional) for the next 34years. For the most part they remained in the holster and the duty belt was stored complete in the officer's locker. That changed in the 90s and they went over to a dedicated forearms safe that saw the revolver attached to a peg with a lock and plate. The officer and station controller were the only two with keys.

In NSW an officer may have been issued a stainless revolver (M64s and M36s) if they were Water Police. In some areas where the officer was attached to a station where they had a launch (Coastal not fresh water locations) the stainless revolver would be in addition to their normal blued arm and would in fact be a station asset, so the blued revolver was also on hand and retained when the officer transferred. For permanent member of Water Police/Divers the stainless was the personal issue.

Range/training arms will be the most beaten, some agencies here still issue revolvers or a combination of revolvers and autos. I recently saw some 3inch M10s that have been on training cycle since the 80s. they are ugly but the armourers keep them going. That said many of the older revolvers and now painted blue and used with simmunitions only.

Lots of the M10s will have left Australia wearing all manner of aftermarket grips (Pachmayers were most common) so I am guessing there are being changed out by S&W. Some were armoury fitted and some were by the individual (this was about the ONLY personal modification of a service arm allowed).

Great post thank you.... I've gotten 3 Aussie re-imports, the last being the most cobby...

Getting a 4" Square Butt for Fathers Day/My Birthday! Got to look it over tonight, don't get it until Fathers Day though. Quite a bit of holster wear but lockup is tight and no rust. Grips are rough but I have a pair of Target grips I am going to put on it.

My wife was worried because... as she put it... "It looks like a piece of junk!!" and she wanted me to check it out in case it needed to go back. I just laughed and told her it was perfect! And I loved it!! Can't wait to get her on Fathers day!!
