Budweiser PR problem?

Adolphus Busch just revoked his NRA membership because he apparently supported the Manchin/Toomey bill and the AWB. Do you think this will affect Budweiser beer sales when the news starts reporting non-Boston related stories?

I'll shoot him a letter and see what his opinion is about the ACLU standing with the NRA on this one.
It's not like I can quit drinking his beer. It's not his beer anymore.

Well, it won't make any difference by my response. Bud tastes awful and I can't stand it so I don't drink it anyway. If it wasn't a "me too" kind of status beer (how did THAT happen?) nobody much would drink it so this situation won't make any difference to any noticeable difference I don't think.

If the taste won't keep people from drinking it, I doubt his NRA stance will keep them from it. Seriously, the belgians own Bud now anyhow.

Ironic that his former product probably killed more people in the United States than any gun.

100 million gun owners, how many million NRA members. The NRA says it speaks for all gun owners, but it doesn't. Like it or not, the demographics of the US are changing and more people are unfamiliar with guns, or just plain don't want guns in the picture or want more restrictions on guns. I didn't know AB IV was a member, so his dropping membership wasn't a shock.

I thought the taste of Bud was enough restriction on its sales.

I don't think it will hurt sales at all. And I agree with Moonman, there are many many better beers than bud. I am a Coors man myself.

Yeah, good riddance to him. This, from his letter, nullifies his input, in my eyes:

Bud drinkers are loyal. Many like it cause it is stronger then other domestic beers. They are the only one that even puts ABV on the can that I know of.

People are still drinking Miller.


Unfortunately you really don't have a choice when it comes to big beers, Bud and Miller/Coors politics are nothing to be happy with. But what is left? Alot of beers nowadays are brewed at the big companies plants. Maybe you could split hairs on that, to find one you are comfortable with.

Buds only PR problem is it's BEER. I don't even drink anymore but even back then Bud and Bush was sewer water. Lived by Tampa and drank a lot of their free samples.
Then all the LITE stuff came out which was worse.
Michelob Amber Bock was drinkable.

They do have nice Horses and the Frogs were great

I always thought the great PR/Sponsor for NASCAR was BEER and Tobacco.

Problem with Guinness is it just weak beer. They tried running a campaign about how it was in low calories like a lite beer. But I suppose the guys who thought they were drinking a stout beer, didn't want to hear that.

I did get a sampler box at Christmas, that has one with some more alcohol in it.

Unfortunately there are a lot of insecure people out there that would rather drink a beer that will make people think they are cool and "in the click" rather than drink a beer they actually like the taste of.

"It's something you never forget being able to be in the outdoors with your father," Busch said in a 2005 interview with KSDK.

Busch, whose great-grandfather founded Anheuser-Busch, made clear his position on guns and the people who legally use them.
"Hunters put back everything they take out and more," he said at the time.

"...I fail to see how the NRA can disregard the overwhelming will of its members who see background checks as reasonable," Busch writes.


"I am simply unable to comprehend how assault weapons and large capacity magazines have a role in your vision," he said. "The NRA I see today has undermined the values upon which it was established. Seems like Mr. Busch is another person who fails to recognize the fact that the Second Amendment is not about hunting. Most of his statements are about hunting, etc.
He also employs a trick out of "their" playbook and talks about what the majority wants without citing any reliable source for his information.

It's too bad to see somebody cut ties with the NRA, but at the same time, we can probably survive without his generalizations and apparent misguided understanding of "The Right To Bear Arms".

Good riddance. With an attitude like that, NRA doesn't need him in the ranks anyway.

If his home were to ever be invaded by multiple perpetrators, he would either:

a. USE a semi-automatic weapon with a high capacity magazine

I am in a beer club, and drink lots of beers. But I also like some plain old light beers too.


What kept me away from micro brews, was I thought the people who drank them were stuck up, and drank cause it made them feel special.

Well of course. My whole point is that I believe everyone should drink what they like and not what some people say is required to be cool.

I realize the tastes vary and some folks will actually like the taste of Bud and/or light beer. I may sometimes exaggerate to make a point.

It's beer for cryin' out loud. Drink what you like and here's to ya!

As was pointed out, Adolphus Busch doesn't have anything to do with the beer company, so I won't go into detail, but I am an India Pale Ale fan.

It is a shame Adolphus Busch decided to separate himself from the firearms community. Our votes, along with his, defeats unconstitutional gun restrictions. Many folks have said they have "issues" with the NRA, but IMHO, it is the only game in town. If Adolphus Busch was in favor of the Toomey-Manchin bill, he should have tried to get the NRA to support it. Now he has no voice, zero, period.

My rankles get ruffled when someone tells me that my choice of beer, booze, food, clothes, vehicle, etc is inferior to theirs because they happen to like XYZ and its better than my ABC. Ok jerk.

Now having said that, the two beers that I LIKE the best aren't even available here in TX. I like "Kiltlifter" in Tucson AZ and "Okanogan Pale Ale" in Whistler Canada. Domestically my taste lies along the much maligned and apparently hated Bud Light or Blue Moon.

Bud is pretty good beer, with a distinctive taste that some like and others don't. I think Coors is almost ephermeral. If I want a light beer, it'll be Heineken. (sp?)

I really prefer a fuller flavor, like Michelob, Sam Adams, or Grolsch (Dutch.) Samuel Smith's Old Pale Ale is great. But I don't swill a six-pack at a time.I drink one or two with meals. That was when I drank beer much at all. I've always been more into wine.

Still, a beer at Hans Mueller's German restaurant at the state fair here went down well, and his tables faced the long Esplanade pool lined with national flags. I'd give my kids a penny for every flag they could name. Then, we'd talk some about the countries whose flags we saw. They learned more about history and geography that way than in school.

I agree that Adolphus Busch IV fails to understand the need for the 2A. He probably grew up in a liberal environment and attended an Ivy League college.

Try "Sheaf stout" very malty, just the right amount of hops. I've always thought Guinness was too weak and bitter.

About the only " national brand/mainstream" American beer I do like is PBR, which is most often the cheapest. (Win, win)

Heck. way back when in our 18's (it was legal) we drank ABC Beer! How about Fishers Ale from Win Dixie or similar fine brews.It was .99 cents a 6 pack!
