Buffalo Bore .40+P

Anyone using this stuff? Looks like some pretty good numbers, and I know it is popular in .38sp, so just wondering if there was any feedback with M&P.40 users.

I see Buffalo Bore is rated +P and SAMMI doesn't have a +P rating for 40S&W ammunition.

From the manual:
Use only commercially manufactured ammunition with internal
ballistic pressures which are in strict accordance with the specifications
of the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’
Institute (SAAMI). If you are uncertain, contact your ammunition
supplier for verification

“Plus-P” (+P) ammunition generates pressures in excess of the
pressures associated with standard ammunition.

“Plus-P-Plus (+P+) ammunition must not be used in Smith &
Wesson firearms. This marking on the ammunition designates
that it exceeds established industry standards, but the designation
does not represent defined pressure limits and therefore such
ammunition may vary significantly as to the pressures generated.

If your gun is damaged from it S&W will not repair it. I called and asked them a while ago about it. .40 is already high pressure, why risk even higher pressure?

All +P is not the same:

.38 Spl 17,000 Psi
.38 Spl +P 20,000 PSI
.40 S&W 35,000 PSI
No SAAMI standard for .40 S&W +P?

I won't try the .40 S&W +P, and I won't allow it in my rentals.

Just out of curiosity driven by these responses - Are there any stock guns out there that these +p rounds are specifically made for? Are they primarily used in custom pieces? Just wondering why .40+p ammo is available if nobody wants to use it.

I was always under the impression that the .40 was something you needed to be careful with re: high pressure, due to the fact that many of the guns chambered for that round do not fully support the case in the chamber. I could be wrong (hey, it has happened). I carry Buffalo Bore ammo in my .357 when hunting, and am very happy with it.

There is such a variety of 40 S&W pistols in public use that we will not determine what pistols are compatible with which 40 S&W +P loads - this is your responsibility! We will add that this ammo is safe in pistols that use a fully supported chamber

I think if you had a 610 and were not a handloader you may not want full power 10s but maybe you want a bit more than standard 40. I saw it on the shelf at Cabellas and went right on by. I like the 180 gold dot short barrel it comes out of my M&P at 995 fps and the compact at 976. Thats all I need in an 40 auto. I did try it in the 16" CX4 at 1143.

M&P 40 barrels are fully supported. The ramp does not cut into the chamber.
+P ammo is at the max of SAAMI specs, not beyond them. +P+ is beyond.
I'm not advocating using +p for your range plinking round but if its from a reputable manufacturer and shot sparingly out of a modern gun, I doubt you would ever encounter any issues. Do whatever you're comfortable with. I agree that the 40 is already a high pressure round. What are you really gaining with +p? Move up to a 10mm if more power is truly needed.
Funny how the 10mm was neutered into the 40, and now we are looking for ways to turn the 40 back into a 10mm.

SAAMI does not list a +p rating for the .40 let alone a +p+. I've seen several pictures of G22's that attempted to shoot buffalo bore. Not pretty by the way. If you need more step up to the 10mm or go big and get a DE .50.
