I bought a new gun last week for the sole purpose of killing. Yep, I'm pissed. I went out back the other night and my dog went for one. I got him away only lone enough to find another then another then...… you get the idea.

I've got some really cool airguns but just needed a semi auto CO2 to dispatch the nasty toads. So I bought this Crossman at WMart for 30 frogskins.

20 Shots at 480 FPS. Lots of dead frogs. I shot another magazine tonight and still have enough juice to kill another dozen or so.

The review, It's a low priced piece of junk but did the job. I'm not sure what it's patterned to look like because I hate plastic guns. The grip feels like a 2X4 and even with my long "piano player" fingers the trigger is out there. Then there's no room for your finger between the trigger and the guard.

The "safety" is above the trigger and on the right. You have to slide it rearward to make it fire. Not good or safe.

Trigger pull is long and easy. You can predict the break after a few rounds of practice.

It's light as can be and does the trick.

I really enjoyed killing them. :D:D:D :D:D:D :D:D:D

They're nasty and toxic, that's for sure. Don't blame you for getting rid of as many as you can. Would not want my dogs fooling with them, either. Ditto for cats. Their venom (or whatever you want to call it) can be fatal to dogs and cats. If left untreated, the mortality rate is said to be right at 100%. If you haven't already read about them, click here.

Only thing I might worry about is their toxic secretions remain toxic on objects it's deposited on. So if you shoot 'em, are you concerned about their venom sort of splattering around on stuff, because when they're alive, they're capable of shooting or spraying the stuff on whatever's close to them.

Also wondering how you're disposing of the dead ones?

Ironically, the things were introduced in Florida to control sugar cane pests. I'd say that wasn't someone's best and brightest idea. Plus, they can live up to ten years!

Dime sized ones everywhere underfoot.
Seen where the ground looks like it's moving.
I only pop them in the grass with a Crosman pump pellet rifle and have a roll of 5 gal. trashbags I'll toss within a couple days.
If you see one a bit smaller, lighter in color with knobs atop the head behind the eyes give it a pass. Can't recall the last I've seen but that's a native. Give off a mucus that's irritating but not toxic.

Guess the little bit of time I have spent in Florida I missed those nasty critters! I hope you have plenty of ammunition! Nastiest import by me are fire ants and killer bees, guess we’re lucky, sort of anyway.

Actually you are going about this all wrong.;):D
One is supposed to Live Trap, them, then humanly euthanize them by putting them in a a freezer and they will die in a happy way just like going to sleep.;)

My Spinger Spaniel got a hold of one once, foamed at the mouth, I was able to rinse out her mouth. She never went near no toad again!

Much the same way the idiots on the barrier island want the Iguanas eliminate as the poop all over their million dollar homes. The have the County PAY money for a trapper, do all the above and send the remains for scientific study.

There is big money in Toad Trapping, start your own business and make money in your spare time!!:D
Side lines include Pooper Scoopers!

They don't shoot their venom. More of an oozing when they are disturbed. I pop them before they know what's happening. Then run the sprinklers.

I bag them up and put them in the garbage.

DG, thanks for the Crossman review. I remember from my teenage years that once you get it sighted in, a wrist rocket does a pretty good job too.

The toads I see in coastal California are mostly desert toads that have lost their way. They are more pathetic than toxic, so I mostly just leave them alone.

All I know is what I read. Quoting from an extensive study of the toads done by the University of Wisconsin:

"People can die within 15 minutes of getting poisoned by a cane toad. Due to their size, children are more affected by the poison than are adults. The toxin affects blood pressure, breathing, and the beating patterns of the heart, and can cause paralysis, salivation, and vomiting. People may get poison shot into their eyes while dealing with the toads. While the toads are generally sedate and rather tolerant of human handling, occasionally the toads feel threatened enough to blow a poison plug. Also, poison may shoot if a toad is shot or beheaded."

Just sayin'...

I am surprised that some resident expert has not pontificated about frogs and toads or toads and frogs and if they are, or not actually different and if so what makes them so:confused:

Toads are frogs but are frogs toads?

Will the slime on a toad make a good substituent for FROG LUBE??

Will the gun have more power and reach +P velocities?? . Will it shoot poison Darts?, Not to be confused with Poison Dart Frogs, they are very pretty,

Much Googling must be done!

Dunno about toad baseball (how do you sanitize the gloves, bats etc), given that it's Florida, toad pollo would seem appropriate.

The opportunities for recreational shooting seem to be endless if your creative.
When my father lived on the left side of Florida he's sit on his patio with a martini and pop rattlesnakes off the 2' block wall between his lot and the scrub behind it. He thought I was silly for not letting the kids play back there. "Days only itty bitty ones".
