I've know a few people that do, and have been wondering how many of you carry a BUG? Personally unless you're a LEO I don't see the point of being in the mindset of carrying two guns. If you do either way, please don't take offense.

My backup guns are either my 442 or my Glock 42 (which replaces my Walther PPK.)

I carry a backup three seasons - in the summer I usually have only one gun, but sometimes I wear two on the ankles when the mood strikes. I never carry iwb.

Personally, although I also usually carry a reload, I like a second gun available. Different quadrant, different side, generally no more obtrusive than the first. Just as fast or faster to access, depending on location (and practice.)

S&W Mod 638 w/ 2.5" barrel ALWAYS carried while on duty. Generally don't carry a BUG off the clock, just my ODG.

Because of the CCW laws in many states it is not a lawful option for a non LEO to carry a BUG but IMO anyone who carries has just as much need for a BUG as a LEO.

You know the saying about "having and needing" and when I move to AZ I will carry a BUG.

I carried a Walther PPK in an ankle holster when on duty. Now I carry a GERBER tactical pen, an SOG fast opening knife with 4" blade, and a hardwood cane in addition to my CS 45. LEO's carry an extra gun when working, I wonder why civilians want or need to do so? Perhaps someone is out to get them.

I always have an NAA .22 mag in a pocket holster, so when I'm carrying IWB then I guess it would become the BUG. My IWB gun is usually a J frame or the 3913 or 4040PD. Subject to change...........

I'm a big fan and believer in the New York Reload. My EDC is a Model 638-1 and a Model 38-0. I also carry an 8 round speed strip because experience has shown me that a firearm without bullets isn't as useful as a firearm with bullets. To those who question why I would carry 2 handguns at once, I once had a DPS Trooper ask me the same question during a traffic stop (according to the Trooper, I was driving 58 mph in a 55 mph zone). My response to him was: "I'm sure you are carrying at least 2 handguns on, or about your person, and if it's good enough for you, then it's good enough for me." He evidently liked my response and let me go on about my business with a warning about "excessive speed".

Regards,

Dave

I always carry two, where permitted. I have a NAA Sidewinder 22mag in my pocket. I don't always open carry, but when I do it is with a S&W 19 or 66 snub. My reasoning for two, is that if someone should jump me from behind and go for my open carry, hopefully I could get them off or create enough distance to go for the NAA. I understand the likelihood is very unlikely, but at the same time this is a crazy world we are living in.

Never heard of this. So you mean to say that some states allow guns depending on their size? What if the BUG is the only gun?

I carry a backup gun every day. That is, I only carry ONE gun, but it is a snubby, j-frame sized revolver.....which many consider only good for backup.

So, my "backup" is my "primary".....and vice versa.

If you have a reason to carry, you have a reason to carry a backup.
Whether you want to or not is nobody's business but your own, as is your choice to carry any legal firearm.

No one has to have "someone out to get them" for a primary carry to be dislodged in a scuffle, or to have a primary jam or fail. The chances of that scenario are remote, but if it should happen, then the advantage of a backup is 100% ( whether it's called upon or not).

Bear in mind, just because your firearm is legally concealed but redily accessible does not mean that a predator can't spot it, just as most LEOs can spot it.

Just a survivors opinion.

Yes.As Louie Awerbuck taught me years ago.If you can carry one you can carry two.Guns break jam lock up run out of ammo.Often at the worst time.Plus a civilian or off duty officer is on their own they do not have back up on the way.

I carried a BUG as an LEO (.25 ACP then my Model 38) but not in retirement. When we take a road trip an extra J frame goes in the car just in case.
