Bullet Recomendations?

I have just acuired a k38 and am seeking some help on bullet manufactures to use I was leaning to Laser-Cast for my reloading anyone have experience with them or have there own recomendations? All my loads will be for range work, 148 Wadcutters and 158 semi wadcutters
for 148 wadcutters should I go with HBWC or DBWC?

www.pennbullets.com makes a nice dbbwc as well as two 158 designs that work very well especially the 158TC. In addtion they offer a premium hard cast like OT as well as a Target Grade for lower velocity use like the .38spl.

i tried lasercast 158gr swc bullets in my model 14 with disappointing results and dedicated those bullets to 357 magnum use only. i went back to the speer 158gr lswc and 4.7gr of unique, excellent accuracy.

Since I don't sell my own cast bullets the next best choice is from Tennessee Valley Bullets. The owner is a member here and goes by NKJ_nut.

The best thing for you to do though is get into casting on your own. When bullets become the next component you can't get, if you cast you will have all you need.

I have kicked that idea around a little and
unfortunatly all my old reloader mentors are
all back on Long Island, I am reloading again because of the ammo issues. And I have thinned my stable way back .22 and .38/357 What would I need to start casting/sizing&lubing

I'll go with previous advice for Penn. Their 158gr TC is the most accurate 38cal bullet I've used in 40 years of loading. If you want it ONLY for low velocity target use, you can order it in an alloy suited for less than 900fps. If, however, you want to smoke them downrange you can order the alloy rated to 1600fps. I've never run one to 1600 but I DO run them hard and have never had any lead trouble. If you decide to try them take the time to read through the website because you may have to wait on them. They are very popular and usually it pays to get bullets somewhere else to hold you over and order a bunch of Penn's when you do order. Well worth it, in my opinion!

Sir, I've shot quite a few LazerCast bullets in .45 Colt, and they leaded the guns like crazy. Even more annoying, the hard alloy made the lead fouling very difficult to remove compared to soft lead fouling.

Perhaps LazerCasts do well in hot magnum loads (I haven't tried this), but I do not like them at standard velocities. I'd suggest you try a different brand.

I have used the Oregon Trail Laser Cast bullets in all of the calibers I load for and in my experience they perform well in the upper end loads for what ever caliber you are loading for. The BHN for them is right at 24 as stated to me by the company. Like the others have mentioned they did not perform for me until I loaded them in the higher end loads for the cartridges I load for (357 mag, 30-30, 45-70). They work fine in that area with little or no leading.

I agree with all of the information above. However I'd also recommend Missouri Bullets. Really you can't go wrong with either Tennessee or Missouri, both fine companies, reasonably priced, fine folks to deal with. We are fortunate to participate in a sport with such decent people.
