Removing corroded batteries from a flashlight

If you have a long enough bit, drill into the battery with a bit just smaller than the battery diameter. You may break it free or be left with just a shell and might be able to use a long screwdriver and a pick to pull out the pieces. I did this once. I guess you could drill into the battery and run a screw into it and try and pull it out.
 
Rather than banging on the table, use a rubber mallet. Hold flashlight with open front end down, whack flashlight butt with rubber mallet.

Rubber mallets are really useful. Cheap, too.
A man after my own heart. 1st solution to every problem is wack it with a hammer ;). Not so sure about that rubber stuff though.
