I thought these were interesting. I don't think I want to be shot be any of them.

These are the same bullets but shows the manufacturers names.

They all look effective.

With all the talk these days about overpenetration, I looked up the two LeHigh Defense bullets.

They have a video on the Xtreme Penetrator bullets and the Xtreme Defense bullets. The are solid copper "barrier blind " bullets designed to penetrate heavy clothing, sheet metal, auto glass, wood and drywall.

The Xtreme Penetrator 9mm 115 grain bullet penetrated 30 inches of ballistic gel. This is designed for use by outdoorsmen on animals.

The Xtreme Defense 9mm 90 grain bullet penetrated 18" of ballistic gel, created a wider channel due to the larger flutes, and is designed for personal defense. I believe he said it "met FBI parameters" but not sure what parameters. I would think this would definitely be a special use bullet due to the penetrating characteristics. Not suited, in my opinion, for home defense in a populated area. Does anyone know more about who carries this type bullet and under what circumstances?

I carry the Lehigh Defense bullet in 38, 9mm and 45acp. I happen to know a guy that did a bunch of the initial testing. I’m a firm believer in the bullet’s performance compared to HP’s. It also helps to confirm my belief that Bill Wilson bought the company

I got hit in the arm by a NERF dart once. That was painful enough. No way I'd want to be in front of any of these bullets.

So far my sister and I have lived 78 years in complete safety.

However my twin brother had to go to the emergency hospital in SF Calif.
to have a bullet removed from his arm that entered just above his elbow and went halfway up towards his shoulder, when 14 years old.

He told me that it was not a fun time, for him.

PS;
thank you for a great picture to add to my collection.

I try and keep things simple. My EDC is a standard model Sig P365 and have found that the Federal 124 Grain HST (std. vel.) is about the best performing out of the 3.1" barrel. Actually better than the +P version out of the same length bbl. The higher velocity +P tends to expand slightly better however because it expands faster, penetration is slightly less. I'm splitting hairs here and either is a great SD round, but find the std. vel. perfect for me.

Today there are lots and lots of great 9mm SD rounds to choose from but I personally like Federal over most brands. They (and their sister Company CCI) seem to be the best quality and most reliable.

I'm primarily a lead bullet revolver shooter for 41 and 357 magnum. What struck me about the photographs is the similarity of performance from brand to brand with the exception of the Hornady XTP which seems to perform more like a game bullet than a self defense round. That's a plus for me with my calibers and usage and I'd love to know the weight retention and penetration numbers.It illustrates at least in my mind the the different applications for engineered bullets between hunting and self defense. ( I wouldn't want to be hit by either! )
