Bushnell Accelerate 4X

Check out the Burris AR-536....you can usually find it for well under retail.

I have the Vortex Spitfire 3X prism scope and love it. It's basically a battle scope and I find it works very well, from ten yards, out to 300 yards, which is the longest I've tried it at.
Read the specs on the reticle, as it's a very useful design.

looks interesting, but check out a used Aimpoint PRO. Look on AR15.com equipment exchange.

Maybe he wants magnification? If so, the Aimpoint is not the optic unless you want to slap on a magnifier.

OP, Bushnell makes a pretty good optic, but there are better ones out there. My first question is are you looking for magnification (assume you are since the one you linked is a 4x) and what is your budget?

If you want magnification, maybe a good 1x4 scope is the way to go?

Yes, I was looking for a 3X-4X...my eyes are not what they used to be. I looked at all the red/green dots at the brick and mortars and came to the conclusion that to punch out over 100 yards magnification is needed. I am still a good shot up to 100 yards with my magpul iron sights, but past that...

I have the 10202 sku M&P 15 Sport 2 with the magpul rear sights, standard model. Been looking for a co-witness if possible. And really can't afford Trijicon's:) Budget is around $350-$550?

Magnified optics and co-witness don't go together. When you magnify, that front post disappears, even at low maginfication. If you really want/need magnification AND a cowitness, then maybe your best option is a 1x red dot (Aimpoint, Eotech, etc) and a flip up magnifier. Use the red dot for close up shots (and cowitness if you want), flip up the magnifier for your longer shots. Your budget is pretty good but I doubt it's enough to get a top notch dot and an magnifier unless you want a cheaper red dot like a Primary Arms....which is still a quality dot it's just not the quality of an Aimpoint etc. For me, I'm just not a magnifier fan. Too much weight and clutter.

Your other option is to get the magnified optic of your choice (Bushnell, Burris, Vortex, Primary Arms etc) as you discussed first and just mount it. As I said, the front sight post will disappear in the optic and it can't be co-witnessed, but you can add a quick disconnect to the optic so if it fails or you want to shoot irons, just take it off. For me, Burris or Vortex are better than Bushnell, and there are a bunch of fixed magnifiation options they make in your budget.

Or.............replace the front sight post with a low profile gas block and free float a new rail.....then you open up the book on a whole slew of possibilities.

Good luck, it's a leaning curve but one that's fun to endure.

In that price range I think the Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25-4x would be an excellent option to consider. Typically find them on sale for around $500. Primary Arms had them on sale last week.

With the holidays approaching and AR related demand being soft, this is a good time to narrow down the choices and click the buy button when a hot sale pops up.

If you want access to your irons get a QD mount to simply remove the scope. Otherwise, you can't co-witness with a magnified optic even at 1x. Well... you can at 1x but it's no good, and with anything but a compact scope there's no way deploy a folding rear sight unless removing the scope anyway (see pic).

This is what the rear sight would look like using most convention size scopes mounted for proper eye relief. I have it mounted on one of my AR 22s, but it's the same as any AR for illustration.

I guess it really comes down to what I want to use this rifle for..been awhile since I have owned firearms, 30 plus years!

I originally bought the M&P 15 to add some safety to camping in the outbacks. Wanted a rifle with quick action to punch out to around 100 yards. It fits the bill.

Took it out to an outdoor range and did ok with up to 100 yards with the iron sights. But, now know I need some magnification.

Thanks for the input!

Cheers
