Buttstock Recoil Spring Sound

...how long did it take you to get used to the recoil spring sound in the adjustable butt stock?

I never noticed the recoil spring making a sound. I guess I need to get my hearing checked - again.

A chrome silicon spring quiets things down. I bought a couple from Damage Industries a couple years ago and am very satisfied. They're on sale for $6. LaRue sells the same thing for $25 in a fancy plastic tube.

Among others things.... From Despcrition -- "Significantly reduces the perceived "twang" noise which is common during firing." It does. Enhanced Spring, Recoil Buffer, Action, Carbine

Does one fit all ?? AR noob ..

From the link I provided above.... Enhanced Spring, Recoil Buffer, Action, Carbine

NOTE: This item is for ADJUSTABLE length M4 style buttstocks.

Rifle-length recoil springs for full-sized fixed buttstocks are available HERE.

For AR-15 / M4 Carbine:

• Constructed from certified USA made chrome silicon spring wire

• Heat treated, stress relieved

• Provides consistent spring pressure for hundreds of thousands of cycles (estimated 750,000+)

• Greater resistance to heat & high stress cyclic rates

• Improves operation, long-lasting performance

• Consistent pressure reduces bolt bounce

• Significantly reduces the perceived "twang" noise which is common during firing

I was surprised the first, and, maybe second, time I fired an AR. Then, when I was shooting NRA High Power Competitions, I found that the RRA NM gun I'd purchased had a buffer that wasn't properly secured with a roll pin. It was there, just not properly secured. After my best ever effort at the lower yardages, two X's and a 10 at 600yds, it locked up the rifle. What the buffer sounded like at that point, was as irrelevant as could be. RRA's lack of response to my calls, e-mails, and letters after the fact, was totally relevant. Lessons learned. I haven't even heard a "sprong" since. (And, that represents many thousands of rounds through various AR platform rifles since). That's just noise. Kinda like the strange sounds emanating from Glock pistols. What does the target say? THAT I'll listen to.

For over twice the cost of the previous parts to get rid of the sprong, it better make the rifle feel like a whole new gun and then some!

While we all know the AR has light recoil, my MOE MID is running comparable to my 10/22 (using "high velocity" rounds). Comparable meaning you will be able to find differences, but it's not much.

Well,I havnt been here in a while...but I've been shooting with the new springs and they make a big difference and our much quietier then,I expected....it's a great up grade....

My first experience with the M16 was during qualification at boot camp in 1976. I was slung up in prone, not sure of what to expect when I fired the rifle. When I squeezed off the first round, all I heard was a pronounced sproing...

I looked at the buttstock then back at the Gunners Mate who was coaching me. The GM must have recognized the look on my face. He just said, "Yep, thats what they sound like".
