I recently received a recall notice from Sams Club because I had bought a suspect product from them. I had charged my purchase so they were able to connect me to that product.

This got me to thinking, if a merchant can connect you to all the purchases you make with a credit card the Government probably can get that information also. With the political climate the way it is I have decided it would be prudent to only buy ammo with cash. It should not be as easily traced.

Am I the only one that was dumb enough to have bought ammo with a credit card?

Uh…….I'm not sure how to answer that. I just kinda think if it comes to that we've got bigger problems and the black helicopters will be pretty busy with other things.

I know this, you'd have to be really dumb to be member of any internet gun board with the gubment snooping around.

I recieved a recall letter from them not to long ago also. I just thought that is was because my purchases were tied to my Sam Club Membership card. Figured that was how they tracked customer purchase trends.

I'm charging hundreds of thousands worth of ammo on my citi card. They always bail out the largest debtors first, anymore. So thanks for the ammo everybody!

They already have access to information about every thing you do. It doesn't matter. It's still not illegal, yet, to buy ammo. Buy away.

When you start thinking like that, the next step is to wear dark glasses and a fake moustache.

We never use a credit card at Sam's and we got a recall notice also. They are supposed to have an incredible computer system, so I think they just did a search on SKUs to identify the purchasers. We had bought the product and used it. They're the only source we had for the info.

The tracking from Sam's club is tied to your Club Card. We got one on the peanut recall. I always pay cash at Sam's, so the only way they could track us is by their club card.

As for the gun board membership thing, I sold all my guns. I'm afraid of ammo. Sarah Brady said guns can just go off and kill someone.

I got a call from our Harris Teeter grocery store on a health recall from a product we had bought. They got the tracking info from our frequent buyer card. My wife also lost her car keys and someone saw her grocery store tag on it and called them. They got the keys back to us.

I could be worried that someone knows my eating and drinking habits... but I can live with that. Both of the above situations worked out OK.

However, I was shocked yesterday when I had looked up a part for a projection TV on Amazon. Later that day I looked at a totally different site for an unrelated item. At the bottom of the page it said... "Hi Mike... are you still looking for the Sony XL-2400 lamp? We have them on sale!"

What Dick said-the only reason I come here is to read what Sip, Shugart & Charlie has to say. Guns are bad they hurt nice people and kill friendly forest creatures. Oh and Muslims are mis-understood-Government needs to be a part of everything cause we can't do it ourselves and I think the stimulus package doesn't go far enough.

If I remember correctly, a woman was on trial for DUI. They bought up all the booze she she bought on her customer loyalty card.

Maybe I should Snopes this

At the end of each year I receive a multi page statement listing each and every purchase made on my credit card over the past 12 months, broken down by category. Lodging, restaurants, fuel, etc.etc., so YES, that information is readily available...question is, to whom?...Ever read one of those double talking privacy statements?

Funny how they can find out all the small things about indivigals, but cant find 17 million illegals. Someone explain to me how illegal kids can go to school etc, and they dont know where the parents live. I know this is a thread drift.

As for the government searching credit card records for gun and ammo purchases.........

I figure it will more likely be a door to door thing.

Like what happened in New Orleans after Katrina.

A major reason we got rid of our Discover card (and gunbroker won't take them) is that they do pay attention to what is charged and they are very anti-gun.

Discover didn't say boo about the milsurps I bought from aimsurplus and then the pile of ammo from ammunitionstore.com.

HOWEVER, we just happened to be at Sam's club a few days later and my wife bought me the mega-bbq grill for my birthday and some other items. The total came to over $700. We were current on our payments and had plenty of credit limit left but Discover wouldn't approve the charge. We went round and round with them on the phone and kept getting some entirely BS explanation as to why there was a hold on this charge. After paying by check and leaving, the only thing we can figure is that someone's panties were in a bunch because of the sizable charge for ammo just prior to this.

I have to admit, though, that I have had the same thought as the OP on purchasing ammo for cash. True, we're all red-flagged in numerous databases because of our "hobby" but what they don't know about ammo (or long guns) is fine with me.

Or they just can't quite figure out when a paroled pediphile moves next door to a family with small children. Well gosh, they might infringe on his rights or something...
