Buying used guns

it has been a few years since i have bought a Factory New gun....i like combing the used gun racks at gunshops and searching gunbroker for guns i am looking for.

Always used and always older than 1960 or so. Usually by alot. Not much made past that point interests me very much, but there's been a few over the years.

I have bought some new guns in the past, 3 to be exact. A Ruger Standard Auto, S&W M57 4" and a Ruger No1. The last one, the Ruger #1, in 1970.

I have bought several used guns and was satsified. I see where often people will buy a gun---shoot just a few times--and take it back to the store. Sometimes it just sat in a safe for a time. At a gun show---you do have to ask-----"why is he selling it..." Maybe it has a problem he has learned and you will learn too. This is more likely to be the case with rifles. Most importantly, usually just one quick look and you can tell if a bubba-clutz had owned it-----then don't buy a problem---he owns a screw-driver and "improves" things. I have seen many Smith pistols that were in fine shape---And some 1911 colts too---but often it is obvious someone practiced "home-gunsmithing." Look at the screws.

Out of two dozen or so handguns only two bought new. I occasionally ship guns off to gunsmiths for tuning so I don't see the absence of smiths locally as that much of a drawback.

Most of the guns that I prefer are old, many are not made anymore. I figure that most people don't really shoot their guns enough to cause any real wear and if they don't appear abused they probably weren't. I'll admit though, I've been lucky with my purchases.

I am so happy that the OP likes to buy New....that leaves all of the fabulous Old stuff for people like me!! Also everyone of the used guns we cherish started out as a new gun to someone.
So, Thank You!
Randy

I don't have a lot of guns compared to many here, but most of my handguns are S&W revolvers. Of those, only one was purchased new...and that was before MIM and the key lock were introduced into new production. I sometimes get a new gun, but it's not an S&W. I only like older S&W. My last new handgun was a Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec.
