The whole thing is three parts and the cost is $300. Part A is eight hours and is almost all legal stuff. Part B is four hours and is more in depth legal stuff. Part C has some basic gun and holster stuff and the qualification on the range. Yes, it is way too long and way too expensive. That's because they want as few people as possible to get a CC permit and want as much revenue from the process as possible. Welcome to the great state of Illinois!

Thanks, but it was worse last year, when we had no cc law at all. Now if you have the money and the time, and you're willing to jump through all their hoops, you might just have a permit by Spring.

I live in Utah and the class was around 4 hours. No range time required although the instructor offered it to anyone interested. Sent the forms off to the state and had the permit in about 5 weeks. Have to renew annually.
When you print the State Police form off of your computer read it very carefully! You have to send a picture along of specific dimensions. It cannot be taken any sooner that 30 days before your package is post marked. It may have to be time stamped? Do not send your certificate of completion. Send a copy and make sure it's signed. Make sure you are correct when you copy your fingerprint number to their form! Make sure your check to them is made out correctly!

According to the law there will be no printing of the application, the whole thing, including picture and proof of training must be submitted electronically. So if you don't have access to a computer or the skills to use one you better start looking around for friends.

KRELL1; Why do you have to renew your permit annually? I also have a Utah permit and I see mine is good for 5 years. I moved here in 2005, got the permit, had to renew in 2010 and I see it says it expires in 2015. Have they changed something I don't know about?

i took my nra basic pistol in the summer, took my 8 hour for Illinois last weekend. cost 100 for pistol course and 150 for Illinois class. the shooting was a joke, had to hit 21 out of 30. 10 at 5 yards, 10 at 7 yards, and 10 at 10 yards. you could throw a rock and go 30 for 30.
my wife finished hers today, she had to take 16 hours, cost 200 bucks
glad its over, cant wait till spring. been waiting a long time for this

I have been writing weekly for the last 2 1/2 years or so. I know many people who are in favor and want CCW, but for whatever reasons don't want to become involved in the process of contacting the politicians.

Did some research at Staples on electronic scanning. They will scan all of your documents to a file in a flash drive. You then go to the web site on your computer that you want to send the files to and down load them from the flash drive in a similar fashion that you would send pictures attached to an Email. If this is the way the SP want this stuff submitted, they will probably put a form on the site that you can download and print out. Fill out the form and have it scanned along with all of the other documents from the classes. Also maybe a check or credit card number to pay them.
