I spotted this hand ejector at my LGS. Serial C 176***.
Condition looks great except for a "bobbed hammer and engraved "bendix" on the side.Action is smooth and it looks like is has very little use. May be re blued? Could the hammer be replaced? The grips show very little wear. For $250 is it worth it? Any help is appreciated, thank you.

No, it does not look reblued, and it does have the correct sharp-shouldered magna-stocks, so even with the cost of replacing the hammer, this is a very good deal on a shooter, and the name might even be the name of an officer who carried it. Buy it!

I checked, Bendix as a corporation was basically merged out of business back in the 1980s, with segments of its original product lines sold off to numerous other companies. Typical corporation games. But the Bendix name still survives for some of those products.

For $250, that gun would be sitting in my safe and I would be starting a "Look What I Found Today" thread or posting a few photos to this thread: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-ha...tell-modified-s-ws.html?488325=#post139238704.:) And I'm not even that much of a fixed sight guy. The high shoulder grips are worth $100 - $150 and the modifications are on the cool side of "tasteful" (but I like nicely modified guns). I love the bobbed hammer and the red insert on the half-penny front sight looks well done and very practical. The "Bendix" looks to be neatly inscribed and for a $250 5-screw 1950's shooter would not deter me one bit. BTW - the finish looks to be original to me.

At $250, I wouldn't have been able to get my checkbook out fast enough! And, if it proved to be as good of a shooter as I think it would be, I would be leaving the bobbed hammer and it would be in my CCW line - up.
