I have a no dash 686 in above average condition. What dollar range today?

Without box and original tools, probably 700-900. With box and original tools, probably 1000-1200.

One reason I have a 6" (besides being a range gun) is that it was more affordable for me than other lengths. It's OK, I'm more than happy with the silk smooth DA and SA that almost breaks like a glass rod. I can feel a tiny bit of creep that is just shy of perfection.

Welcome to the S&W Forums. It's really hard to estimate value without knowing barrel length, engineering change (the number after the model number) and if there have been any modifications to the revolver. Pictures also greatly help.
