Cabela's lost my business

I've been a faithful customer of Cabela's for over thirty years and I spent outfitting thousands in their stores and via catalog sales as I outfitted myself and my family with hunting and fishing equipment. They have drastically changed since being purchased by bAss Pro Shop and I've spent my last dollar with them. The clothing is not the same as Cabela's previously sold, the staff are neither knowledgeable nor helpful and their generous lifetime guarantee changed to thirty-days. It saddens me greatly but the legendary store is gone.

Well, I do not go to either of those stores. The only thing i would get in there would be soft plastic baits, and I buy them on line. The quality is IMHO not there, and half of what they sell is camo. I do not want to look a tree or that I am about ready to invade Poland.

I just haven't seen the attraction in the big sport shops. Sometimes they MIGHT have an item I want, but I've never felt like I got any great deals or found much of anything I could use.

All the big chain stores are following the Wally Wal-World model.....quality US made goods in the value stores have all been replaced with foreign made disposable trinkets.

Cabela's is not what they used to be... at one time I bought guns etc there... now I just pick up ammo when on sale... and I have one of each of them on both sides of me... one by home, one by work... hardly ever go anymore...

We have to remember that Cabela's as we knew it is gone. The Bass Pro buyout killed it.

There are only two people I recognize at my Cabela's that were there before the change. I have about quit going there, but it is "on the route", so I keep hoping for better.

I used to buy most of my clothing from Cabela's because it was quality and US made. But that changed over time.

just the continued decline of merchandise, first it was Eddie Bauer then LL Bean now Cabela's.

First it was Dick's and their anti gun stance and now Cabela's? Where are we supposed to go now? Thank god I'm an old f@8+ and don't really need much of anything anymore..........

Same here. I don't know how many guns I bought there (at least 5) and often ammo too, but I haven't been back in years. Last time I was there almost all the handguns were new. The few older guns were priced like they were made of gold and encrusted with diamonds.

I can't blame the Cabela family for cashing out; maybe they wanted to spend their time hunting and fishing instead of running a nation-wide business.

I bought a $1200 Pre 27 there, and a $600 pre 14 for $295 and $250, respectively. I'll continue to do business with them, and i won't complain when they make a mistake......LOL.

If the mistake is in their favor, I just won't give them my CC #.

I came along late and most of my spending has been in accessories and components.

I stopped doing business with them over a decade ago when they refused to cooperate with police on ID theft concerning one of my credit cards. The time lost getting a warrant for MY personal info that had been changed by the thief allowed the thief to collect the goods, and get away with the crime.

I only go into Cabelas to look, and maybe to tick-off the employees on occasion.

Last time in, I was browsing the pistol counter and saw a guy and his wife looking at a used SCCY CPX2, you know, the s-n-s that's always on sale for well under $200, always! I ask the guy how much they wanted, and he shows me the tag, $249. So I whip out my phone and bring up the gun-deals site. Didn't take but a minute and I find a brand new SCCY for something like $170 with free shipping.

Needless to say, the guy quickly handed that overpriced used gun back to the employee and said thanks, but no-thanks. Then the clerk looks at me, and asks in a snark voice, "did you need something".

Cabelas or basically any big box so called gun store I tend to not shop there much.

Generally speaking I find their sales people not too knowledgeable. (there are exceptions but their rare)

Heck I was offered a job at one because the manger felt the same, but I value my retired freedom to get tied down again.

Go to many LGS in my area (35 miles from my house) and the people there call me by name and I reciprocate. Now that the wife is shooting more than me she gets the same treatment!

As far as the locks staying on guns, I do not not test out, I do not buy! Even when I buy a gun, like from this forum I get a chance at the FFLs to look it over before I accept!. Has not been a problem they all checked out fine!

We did in the past hit the big boxes if they had a super good ammo sale. One year prices were good and we had coupons that made it even better and as my whole family shoots we bought a lot of ammo to use as Christmas presents.

Unless its a super deal on something I just got to have I will not be buying anything at a big box that needs federal paperwork.

Its none of their business. I know, demographic research.
