I've shown off my collection of blue 27s in the various barrel lengths:

I've been thinking about jumping into nickel for a while and a good deal at Cabela's this week prompted me to do so. I picked up this 5" 27-2 with presentation case and papers for $650 + tax. It came with ugly rubbers and was pretty cloudy and milky. I worked it over with some Flitz, and added a nice pair of smooth targets that I purchased from a fellow forum member and I'm pretty happy with the results!

And here it is with its 5" blue brother:

Very nice looking revolver! Great grab, and a real steal.

You could probably put some Renaissance or Johnson's wax on the gun, and it should keep the nickel nice and clear.

Those target stocks really add a nice touch.

Gun values are going up on the more rare collectables all the time. Any nickel s&w n frame that's under $1,000 is a steal. The old prices are few and far between now. It's the price vs condition first, if it has the orginal box, tools and papers up goes the value. It's a matter of filling a gap in your collection or how bad you want it. If you want it really bad the price means nothing.

Grab that nickel while we still can. This isn't like Easter and the cad berry eggs it doesn't happen once every year. Get that freaking awesome world famous s&w nickel finish while we still see it. The guns are playing musical chairs. We're seeing most of them that have been tucked away in drawers and growing roots in safe for decades, many decades. Now the older collectors and shooters are moving on as we will someday in the future too. But for now it's out turn or time to give all these treasures a good home. Nickel finish is the one you want trust me it's just about no longer available never to be seen again except for the ones we have tucked safely away.

To me that s&w m27-2 w/5" barrel in nickel is worth a $1,000 easy maybe as high as $1,200?
You stole it without firing a shot. Value?? Remember were using paper money.

The ccw instructor who taught my family during the course told them a shiney gun is better in a low light bad situation. The bad guy can see the gun more clearly along with the size of the hole in the barrel. Nickel rocks,
.

Yeah it's crazy. If Cabelas had just paid some associate the $15 per hour or whatever they pay for the hour it took me to polish this thing and thrown on a nicer pair of stocks (say $75), then the appeal of this gun would have gone way up and I think they could have sold it for at least $1000. Seems like that would have been a sound investment on their part! If they sold it for $650 I hate to think what they must have given for it!

Would seem that the original seller and Cabelas didn't know what they had. The Reno Cabelas has/had a 95% 4" M28 for $750.

Great score!! I am envious...

In my youth I stayed away from Nickel, calling them "Detroit Bumpers". Love them now and you have saved a beauty.
BCDWYO I would like to see how the revolvers sit in that rack. Looks too cool.

I picked that rack up a while ago at a gun show from a guy who made it. I think it is designed to hold them barrel-up:

But it works this way too:

Not very stable or secure, but useful for photos.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
Difficult to understand their thinking.
