CADENCE SONGS

I was watching the old John Wayne move "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" with my dad sometime in the 1970's. At some point he commented "That was an old song when they made the movie. I marched to a version of Yellow Ribbon in '42.". At my dads funeral in 1987 I mentioned this to my brother who laughed and said "That's funny, I marched to Yellow Ribbon in 1966." I remembered this in 1988 when I found my self marching to Yellow Ribbon at Ft Dix NJ. Some things don't change much I guess.

" Most of the ones I remember would probably violate a rule"

^^^^^ This

I was in from 84-92. In BT we used A LOT that were "not acceptable" by todays standards. From what I understand the DI's in todays military are NOT even allowed to use ANY type of curse word at all in a cadence. I hear they use very "watered down" cadences. SMH!

When I was going through BCT (Basic Combat Training), we had a Drill Sergeant who was a lay minister. He never used profanity, and the strongest thing he would call you was "silly person". Yeah, you may snicker, but I saw more than one or two guys reduced to tears by that Drill Sergeant calling them "silly person".

Regards,

Dave

I took basic training in a Calvary outfit in 1967 and we also marched to Yellow Ribbon.

We didn't do a lot of singing in Navy boot camp. There was one about some Eskimo cats but I don't remember all of it.

We did one where we would split the platoon at obliques when something was in our way. I don't think I ever saw anybody else do it.

Into the air junior birdmen
into the air boy scouts too
into the air junior birdmen
and keep your nose up in the blue.

When they make those presentations
and hand out those wings of tin
you too can be a junior birdman
if you mail your box tops in.

No offense intended toward former or
present junior birdmen.
