Well, y'all might remember a couple of years ago when I had the vacation from hell in Texas, running into the uninsured mexicans camped out in the middle lane of the interstate, having my boat trailer break and then the motor on the boat going out.
This year we has a week over on the Mississippi coast with my brothers and sister planned. Catch up on everything, see the old man, bring the boat over for the nieces and nephews to play with.....
Well, first off, I was notified that I had to go back to court on the Thursday of that week for a ministerial type hearing that would last 5 minutes at the most, but did require client's presence to verbally certify under oath to the truthfullness of a tax return previously filed with the court. Contacted the client to tell him that I would, at my expense, have a stand in lawyer with him-that this had suddenly come up and I would be on vacation. Client was mad that he had to make another trip back to court and in spite of me telling him that this was something new the Trustee had implemented just recently and that I would pay for the lawyer to stand with him-that it was nothing, etc. said that was unacceptable, that if I didn't show up in court with him, he would report me to the bar association and would want his money back. So I said OK, I'll be there Thursday (wife was mad but what are you gonna do-plus I get three days by myself at home :D). Plan was to chill and catch up on work Monday-Wednesday, go to the hearing Thursday , hook up the boat and be in Mississippi Thursday afternoon. Of course once everyone found out I wasn't leaving until Thursday, my callendar filled up for Monday-Wednesday

Thursday morning (the 9th )at around 3:45 the phone starts to ringing-not a good sign anytime. I answer it only to find out that my dad is in the hospital and going fast. I e mail my client that I'm off to Mississippi as me dad is dying and e mail a lawyer to stand in for me and I'm off to Mississippi only to get a call between Morgan city and Houma that he died. Get to Gulfport-spend the rest of the morning making funeral arrangements and then spend the rest of the weekend staying drunk.

Walk into my office Monday morning to fins a snarky e mail from my client demanding his money back and news that another good friend is on his death bed (buried him yesterday). After the response I sent my client, I expect a letter from the bar association any day now.

Kinda takes the starch out of you.

Anyway that's how I spend summer vacation 2012.

Very sorry to hear about your Dad. Thoughts and prayers will be with you. And as for disagreeable clients, well, been there, done that. They will screw up your vacation every time. That's mostly why I didn't have one between 1968 and 1993. Life is much better on my side of the bench!

Sorry to hear about your Father and Friend. But if you get a letter from the bar Then I would frame it and explain to what happened. People are such jerks anymore and have no feelings for anybody else. It seems that we have an problem with its all about me and to H*** with you. I would have raised H*** with you if you didnt go. I also have a few values left. YOU did the right thing and I think that you should have no problems but if you do then I hope that it will work out for you.

Very sorry to hear about your father, Cajun. Then, a good friend? Awful.
Your former client sounds like a complete jerk. It doesn't sound like you have good vacations at all.

My condolences to you and the grieving families.

sorry about your losses. losing your father is hard. mine has been gone for almost two years now. the client needed put in his place.

Sorry to hear of your Dads passing, and that of your friend.

As far as the client goes it brings to mind something my dear departed father would say, " **** him. "

Keep your friends here on the forum posted. :)

Helluva thing Caj, sorry to hear about it. Charge me off to your client as a consultant, I charge 1500 and hour, I spent two hours thinking about my response, then an hour spell checking. Monkey poop sucking.......nevermind, the rest will get me banned.

Caj, My year has been a real corker. Nothing like yours though. We all have our limits and sounds like yours were a real test of any mans mettle. Sorry for your losses (not at the track-That's on you), and congratulations on not beating the stuffing out of your sorry-@$% client. Best of luck if/when you get a letter from the BAR. Go easy on the liquor and spend some quality time with people that are still here and make you happy. (Not the forum either---Family!! Well, Your blood family.) LOL Try to take some comfort in the sweeter things in life that you still have. As lousy as your situation is, MANY have it worse. Blessings to you and yours.............Sprefix

I'm truly sorry for your losses. My family is all gone. I'd say find a spot away to yourself, get drunk, and take some time for you. I took the pledge 2 months ago or I'd drink to you.
