I recently purchased a S&W M&P 2.0 in 9mm with a 4inch barrel, I'm curious if I can convert it to 380 caliber. If by changing the barrel, recoil spring and magazines to 380 caliber, will changing these components work. If so, any recommendations on were to get 380 magazines.

So you have a m&p 2.0 9mm what , a 4" compact model or shield ?? Now you want to convert to 380acp ? Not happening .

The only M&P 380 models I think are the EZ and a bodyguard so you might be better selling what you have and buying a 380 acp something !

Whats the problem with the 4" 9mm . Hard to rack or to much recoil ??
There are rack assist that will replace the back plate on the slide . If recoils to heavy Hornady has a 100gr ftx lite ammo . 27% less recoil. MY wifes 5-2 and 67 years young now and carrys ether a p365xl or kimber ultra 9mm . Both are loaded with standard velocity 147gr hst or ranger t-series as she said its pushier not as snappy as lighter bullet ammo !! Beats me as it still carry a m&p 40 and lw commander in 45 . Lady up the hill is 74 and carrys a m&p 380EZ with a holosun 507 green circle dot but her deal is racking the 9mm , not shooting my wifes pistols .

hardly1 ... Thank you for replying.. My intent was to avoid buying 2 guns.. I don't have any issues with the 9mm, in fact it racks and shoots great. The conversion to 380 was to save money on ammo while at the range. The 9mm is my new carry, I was carrying MP40, at my age (76) I needed a less recoil.

Factory 380 costs about 30% more than 9mm in the current market. If you are loading your own I suppose you might save a little.

Buy a SCCY CPX-3 and call it good to go...

Once you get familiar with the revolver-like trigger pull you will be fine.

Cheers!

You are spending more money on changing the pistol to save what? Probably not much. You may even spend more on 380. If you want to practice cheaper then buy a cheap 22 and shoot. I can see that if you have a 9mm and want to be able to switch to a 40 but, down to a 380 doesn't make much sense.

This would be the route I'd follow. Actually I have. Get the S&W M&P .22 compact. Except for the safety it's very similar to your 9mm and the ammo is both readily available and much less expensive. You'll come out money ahead of buying a .380.

To late now but for practice you could have bought a 9mm barrel and it would work in your 40sw pistol more than likely run fine for practice with the 40sw mag , extractor and recoil spring . I know a lady that did this . But a 380 ??

How about you telling us how much cheap the range 380acp ammo is compared to 9mm ?

You might try to find an outdoor range to shot at , forestry range maybe ? I hate indoor ranges do to how noisy they can be and the air quality can be an unknown , really !! Outdoors you can shoot ammo you can get a better deal on too . Heck I can buy 50 round boxes of PMC Bronze ammo 165gr 40sw for 19.99 or 21.00 locally , the same in 9mm is 21 bucks same as 380 but 380 does tend to cost more to shoot .

If save money long term is the your game maybe you should buy a m&p compact 22lr for practice and spend 4 to 5 bucks for 50 rounds !! SKU: 108390 . You will pay for the 22lr m&p handgun price difference fairly quickly .

This model is a good match for your new pistol and sell for $399 in many good gun shops .

I noticed that almost none of the posts answer the question. Anyway, I don't think you can get the parts for that.
