California pig rules could cause BACON to disappear

You have to wonder how the laws on interstate commerce apply in this sort of case. I know this won't be a universally popular statement, but there are times when a state needs to get a slap upside the head and reminded that it is but one in a union.

CA did the same with eggs and won in federal court. The result - a dozen eggs in CA go for about $3.99, even at WalMart. That's the goal, BTW.

CA wants to limit egg and now pig to "grown in CA" only and collect more tax money, require in state labor (with the attendant state income tax revenue) and in state production of all the things that go into these businesses.

States that supply CA with water and power ought to think along those lines too.

This is just insane.

Now, hold on!
I didn't even know real bacon was consumed in CA.
Turkey and soy replacements, yes. But not the real thing.

I say... Let them hang themselves.
They've earned it.

On a side note...
When is the San Andreas fault scheduled to let go and drop CA into the Pacific?

More bacon for me, no matter how this ends up.

There is nothing wrong with The Idiocracy of the I 5 Corridor (tm) that will not be improved a major earthquake and a serious tsunami. There is very little between Blaine and San Diego that is worth saving.

If I was a large scale pig farmer I'd take the hit to sales and suffer through it. California pulls this stuff all the time. They throw their market weight around. Cut'em off. No BACON FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! The problem will resolve itself in the farmer's favor if they just say "Eh, let them eat cake..."

Win stupid election, Californians pay big bucks for 'spensive CA-sourced bacon. There's bacon-flavored freedom just across the state line.

California accounts for 15% of bacon sales and consumption in the U.S.
Plus the hog growers have had 3 years to get ready for this
The law passed in 2018 did the rest of the country think it wouldn't come to past?

I for one have been in both hog/farrowing and poultry houses and I feel
sorry for these animals. It is humane to try and help them. Of course
I feel sorry for humans living in crowded conditions.

I do eat pork, just not cured pork. I doubt bacon will disappear in Ca. it
will just cost more.

Steve you're English-How'd you find out about the Commerce Clause?? :D
Reasing that damned Constitution again aren't you ;)

You heard about the case in which a man living in CA had an argument with his son. Cops were called. No weapons involved but the officers did notice he owned several. He was cited for misdemeanor obstruction. Piddly stuff. Before it goes to court, he moves to Ohio. He's living in Ohio, but working through the CA legal system to settle the matter. The DA in CA decides that their red flag laws demand that the man turn in his guns. One problem. The man and his guns are in another state. To CA this is no problem. They asked a judge to order that the man surrender his firearms to authorities in Ohio. They want Ohio to enforce CA law. The judge told them they were nuts, but it seemed perfectly reasonable to CA.

Wow. But I shouldn't be surprised. It's California, after all. Glad I don't live there and if I did, I'd be packin' up the ol' mule and heading east. Destination anywhere but California.

Link to an actual news story?

Unlike alot of CA foolishness this wasn't passed by the legislature but by voter referendum. I remember when the anti-cruelty chicken referendum was collecting signatures a nice little old lady asked me to sign. She assured me they weren't against eating chickens, just that the be treated humanely. "As in, free range is OK?" I asked and she said yes.

"Well that's good to hear, because this weekend I intend to hunt and kill an elk up in Oregon and that's about as free range as it gets".

Turned out she was not quite so "pro-free range" as presented.

These folks are mostly looking for a way to control others. Give in to them on chickens and eggs and pigs and it becomes impossible to reasonably oppose them on pretty much anything else.
