I recently purchased a .22 and a .40 FS, M&P handguns. Called S&W about the possibility of ordering sights for the .22 that match the "3 dot" sights of the .40. Their response was that the front and rear sights for the .40 or 9mm will press/slide into the .22. They're sending me a free set of "3 dot" sights for a 9mm/.40 and told me that they'll fit perfectly into the .22 frame. Does this jive with the experiences of the M&P forum members?

The front is already a white dot. I ordered the rear, M&P dot sight from Midway yesterday. So I guess I'll find out.

Please let us know if the info they gave you is accurate. If it is, my M&P22 may be wearing a HiViz overmolded fiber optic front sight soon!

JackD, In response to your post, I called S&W this morning. (I have M&P9fs and the 22). I was told the exact opposite. The M&P22 is a unique rear sight and would NOT interchange with the other M&P framework. I spoke with a guy named "Mark", who did you talk to?

Color me confused?!!??

bgs210,

I was pleased enough to hear from S&W about the sights that I didn't note the gentleman's name who spoke with me. As soon as the sights arrive they'll be given to our gunsmith for his comments on whether or not they'll fit up with the .22. Will let everyone know some time next week.

I used the rear sight from my 9c on the M&P22 after I upgraded the 9c to NS. It slid right in and after a few light taps it was seated into final alignment and hasn't moved.

I put a factory 9L rear sight on my 22. Works fine. Pushes almost all the way on by thumb pressure and a few taps from a rubber mallet to finish it up. Just take care not to over tighten the set screw once you get the new one set. It is easy to dimple the aluminum slide. Enough to be seen from the bottom of the slide

S&W customer support is awesome and even though the Walther's they are USA distributers for only have a one year warranty, their generosity extends even there. I asked about the loose breakdown key one of the Walther pistols uses and they sent me two of them--free.

This is what I love about my local gun shop:

I walked into the shop at lunch and waited my turn. (Local Chief Deputy was ahead of me).

I told Andy what I didn't like about the MP22 I had purchased from him 10 days ago. "The rear sights don't match my MP9fs" - and then told him the tale of this thread.
Andy: "You've got the .22 with ya, don't ya?"
Me: "Yep"
Andy: "Go get it..."

I bring it back in. And find that he is already taking the rear sight from a MP9c that he had recently traded for. He then installs WITH NO PROBLEM AT ALL the rear sight onto my MP22.

Andy: "There ya go."
Me: Mouth hanging open, "But that leaves you with a gun you can't sell..."
Andy: "No problem, I know you've already checked the S&W website. How much is the rear sight?"
Me: $16.50
Andy: "Gimme $17.00 and have fun shooting this weekend."
Me: Walks out with matching sights on both the MP9 and MP22.

I have an M&P 22 with 9mm rear sight installed. Not sure if front sight from the 9mm is compatible. I have one, but the fit seems much different.

Sights from S&W came in today.

The sights arrive today from S&W. The rear and front look like they'll fit. I'm taking the .22 and the new sights from S&W to the gunsmith this weekend. Will let the forum know the results.

i sweet talked the smith CS to send me a rear factory sight to try out. slides right in. now i just need to get a dawson fiber front to match my other m&ps

i found a used set from .40 and just put the rear on ...fit fine. I couldn't stand the one that came with it.

have you shot it yet? where is it hitting? mine hits a bit low now...

Got my .22 back with the new rear sights installed for free from the gun dealer. Haven't shot yet, but the 9mm/.40 rear sights on the .22 now make it a 3 dot like the larger calibers. Thanks for all the input throughout this thread.

I've been super pleased with my MP22 with "3 dot" sights. While mine costed $17 versus getting a free set from S&W - I couldn't be happier. I had them installed right then by my local gun shop. We made sure the POA/POI was the same while still in the shop with a bore laser sight on both the .22 and the 9mm. He got the replacement rear sight for the donor MP9c.

Two weekends of beautiful weather (sunny and near 70°) allowed me to really test the MP22 & MP9 with some range time. Both are grouping in the "X" at 7 and 10 yards.

I'm tickled!!!

Anyone had experience putting fiber optics on yet? Looking to upgrade any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks JackD

Just came upon this thread today. Called S&W and they are doing the exact same for me. The rep I spoke with indicated the rear sights for the 9, 40, and 45 are all the same.

Thanks again for your heads-up JackD.

I really do like this site A LOT.

Pete
