In 2004 I was playing golf in a beer league with my brother as my partner. Putting out on #15 at Avon Fields, Dave said: "what is wrong with you." "Your game sucks".

I told him that my armpits and the left side of my neck ached terribly.

His response? Drink another beer. I finished out the round along with more beer, hit the bar in the clubhouse and finished the night at the Old Engine House Inn. All pain gone.

0300. The symptoms returned only more so. Most men hear about gas being the culprit so I went downstairs and mixed a tablespoon of baking soda with two Alka-Seltzers. By gum, that'll take care of it.

Nope. I woke Ruthie, handed her my wallet and said: "call 911."

I got a zipper.

PS: go see a cardiologist.

I woke up one night with a numbness/tightness in my left arm. Since I had Carpal Tunnel issues at the time I dismissed it. Woke up again with same numbness, sat up for 10 minutes and went back to sleep. Next day this gnawed at me and I called my Dr, he said get to my office immediately. I did,and he listened, took my blood pressure & O2, and said I want you in the hospital overnight on monitoring. Id and I had no problem but had a treadmill with cardiolite scan the next day and found the right coronary artery 96% blocked. (This was 18 years ago) the Cardiologist offered to do an angioplasty (but if it wasn't successful, I would have to be airlifted to a hospital 100 miles away for emergency open heart). I told him wouldn't it be simpler if I drove to this city and had the angioplasty there and if necessary I wouldn'g have to have an emergency transfer. He agreed. I had a stent (2 of them) placed on thanksgivings day 2000 and went home the next morning.

Watch the diet, take meds, no more cigars, get exercise. Other than other ill's I'm doing good and hope to be around a while yet.

CALL THE CARDIOLOGIST, GET A SCAN WITH CONTRAST.

Lots of things can also mimic heart problems. I occasionally have gallbladder pain...which hurts under your shoulder blade, your sternum and even causes pain in your jaws. If I didn't know what it was, and wasn't used to it, I'd be sure I was having a heart attack.

Yup, I went to the ER in the middle of the night once about 20 years about with those exact symptoms, and that was the issue.

One other trip to the ER with pain in my upper back with each breath and it turned out to be pleurisy (infection of the pleura - the lining of the chest cavity around the lungs).

thanks for the info

but maybe re-read my original message. i never believed i was actually having a coronary . a possibility , sure , but i had no problems breathing .i DO get plenty of exercise and watch my health in general.
contacted my doctors office today and i have an appt. this thur.
the office nurse i talked to hinted the doctor indicated on my last visit months ago that it could possibly be a pinched nerve in my neck . may order an mri
thanks again & i will post more when i know more .

Please see a cardiologist. I had similar things happen and now have a zipper chest after a triple bypass. Don't let them dismiss it with the old "...we can wait to see if it happens again." That is often option #1. #2 is often "... we can do a cathertization to see if there is anything to see."
That is where my problem revealed itself. The cardiologist said that he never expected in a thousand years to see what he saw. Let them poke and probe until the issue is identified.
In the end, I don't feel a bit different, but I am alive.

Ok....I know where you are coming from, but here is my story. I was riding a mtn. bike 10 to 15 miles 3 times a week, working-out with weights and on an elliptical another 2 days. When not working-out I was hiking, hunting, etc...point is I was very active and physically fit. BUT, I had some strange feelings (nothing tell-tale to indicate anything cardiovascular) so, I went to my GP for tests and my cholesterol, blood pressure, and EKG all were normal. But my wife (thank the Lord) insisted I see a cardiologist, so I went and had a stress test .... still nothing (but remember I was in really good physical condition & worked out regularly) but I was still having the "just not feeling right" symptoms, so the cardiologist gave me a nuclear test that did show some blockage so the cardiologist scheduled me for an arteriogram and probable stent(s)....but the arteriogram showed the blockages (4 of them, one of which was a 90% blockage to the "widow-maker" artery) to be too far along for stents, so a couple of days later I had a quadruple by-pass.

I've never shared this on this forum ..... and I only do so now because it may persuade you or some others to have a thorough cardiovascular exam.....I was not having any classic symptoms of heart problems and was continually working-out and being very active.....if not for my wife insisting that I see a cardiologist I probably would not be here today. I was blessed in that I did not have a heart attack and thus no heart damage. Today, almost 5 years later I'm 25 pounds lighter, stronger and more active than ever.

Again...it may turn out to be nothing to be concerned about OR it could be something else......you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to get it checked out thoroughly.

22 tears ago last month I had an angina episode while walking. Stopped and it went away, started again and it came back. Drove myself to the ER and the next day had a quadruple cardiac by-pass! Still have not ever had a heart attack, but I hope to only have one in my life, if you get my drift, just not yet!!!!

Pinched nerve in your neck, BS!!!!!!! Your GP is an idiot.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CARDIOLOGIST, FIND ONE IMMEDIATELY!
