Caller ID

I'll be getting a phone shortly, that has Caller ID Capability......Not sure I want it or need it.

Question, does caller ID show you the name of the person that's calling or does it show the number only?

Another question, what's is cost a month? BellSouth is my carrier..

Mine shows the name and the number for standard land line phones. I get the number only on most cell phones. Some solicitation calls and political calls are listed as 000-0000 or "private" and I try to ignore them. Check with BellSouth, you may have the feature.

It shows, in most cased your name and phone number.

Normally costs about $7.50 per month.

I have it disabled on my phones. All you have to do is call the phone company and tell them that you do not want it and they will disable it.

Then you will have calls that say, "We do not accept calls without caller ID " to rectify that simply dial *82 and the number, including area code if needed, and it will go through. It will automatically revert to non-caller ID.

If you have it installed and want to block it, then dial *67 plus the number including area code if needed and it will be blocked for that call only.

I like it because it really limits the telemarketing calls....I get maybe one or two every month or so.

Having it disabled WILL NOT affect emergency calls to 911, etc...they will override it.

They said I would have to put down a cash deposit. I asked the interest rate they were paying.

They said 11%.

I asked if I could put down a $6,000 deposit.


After checking with "the boss", they decided I didn't have to put down a deposit after all.

I have caller ID on my land line. Personally I think it is great.. just for the fact that I can see who it is and if I want to answer or not.

Usually I go with or not.

I'm so used to seeing everyones name on my cell, it's weird answering a phone when I don't know who it is.

When I come into the house I use it to see if I have missed any calls. I like having this feature. Several times I have had people try to make excuses by saying, " I tried calling all day..." doesn't work as the call log
tells the truth. Allows you to select the calls to answer.
Occasionally though it raises some anxiety. My nephew worked for a while for the IRS and his calls from work put the fear into me at first.

For land line phones there are normally 2 modes of caller ID. Number only and number and name. They charge more for the name feature. As has been said, a number of calls come thru as private or a bogus central number. Cell phone incoming calls didn't used to send number info, so you'd just see something that's not very useful. Cell phones mostly will show you the name of the person calling, if they're in your address book.

For the other poster with the marketing calls, why are you bothering with them at all. Put your number, including cell number on the 'Do not call' list.

We've just got the old answering machine. I'll let it ring until it answers and if I want to talk to whoever, I'll answer. Just 'cause it rings doesn't mean I have to answer it.
Everybody I want to talk to calls my cell phone anyway.

I have an older caller ID that I bought from Bell. I gives the option of denying incoming calls that the caller tries to block. Gives them a short "we do not accept blocked calls" and hangs up! For regular calls, it displays, name, number and time of call.

I find caller ID very helpful, on my phone cell phone numbers show, names do not since most cell phone owners have not listed their numbers, the ID usually says Florida Call and the number for cell phones. I usually don’t answer if I don’t recognize the number.
Some calls now say Political Call with a number----actually I am getting more caller ID information now than a couple of years ago.

I don't answer the phone at my house pure and simple. The answering machine does-if she's not home the phone doesn't get answered. If it's important and I need to take it, they-1 know my cell phone # and 2 will call me on it. Betwen the office and my cell -I get enough phone calls during the day.

I have Magic Jack and that is free. $19.95 a year for everything, including 911 service. Never have telemarketing calls..never. New phone number, Bellsouth gone, but I still have DSL. No phone bill, no problem.
This thing is so good I was sure it would be illegal. It ain't.

Yes sir. All free. And Canada for sure, and now other places that I have no interest in. Go to the website, it's updated.
This is the same as Vonage..just much cheaper.
This brought peace and quiet to my life and saved me money also. Even the politicians can get to me.
I signed up for the "do not call" lists long ago. Too many loopholes, it don't mean a thing.
